So sayeth the rulebook:

12.1 AUTOMOBILE (CAR)
A self-propelled land vehicle, running on at least four wheels, not in a line, which must be in contact with the ground when at rest.
And yet the Grinnall Scorpion III looks so tempting. For those not so familiar, it’s a reverse-trike (two front, one rear) made in the UK, based upon a BMW K-series motorcycle drivetrain. Link: http://www.grinnallcars.com/content/home/scorpion_III.html

Has anybody ever heard of a vehicle such as this running in SoloII? It seems to me that a sufficiently creative person might find a way to satisfy the four wheel requirement. Even if it turns out not to be competitive in AM it looks like it would be an absolute riot to drive.

It wouldn't run AS. Given that it's not sold in the U.S., it would be classed in Mod somewhere, and that's only if you had 4 wheels. :)

There was a British economy car in the '60s and '70s called the Reliant that was three wheels, two in back. More than you ever wanted to know here:

Whoops- should have read AM. Notice how close the M and S keys are on the keyboard? No, neither did I.

The Scorp certainly isn't the only (or best-known) reverse trike in current production. The T-Rex is avaliable in the US, and cosmetics aside is a very similar platform.

I've never heard of these vehicles competing in, well, pretty much anything. I just can't believe that nobody has ever hung a bicycle wheel off the back of one and tried.

Still have to get past the local safety steward, and most of them aren't blind.

We used to allow these under the old SDAA rules. Lance Stewart the 1988? IMSA GTU champion drove a Tri Hawk here and as I remember was pretty darn quick with it.
