Thursday UT autosports page quotes Jim Baldwin owner of Chula Vista Int'l Raceway as saying once the site is granted permanent status, he will pave a large area for pits and spectator facilities.
"That area could be used for law enforcement training, car club slaloms and 1/8 mile street-legal drag racing"
Could this be our new venue? Are any of our old guard, in the know guys talking with Jim?
Maybe we could even get SCCA involved & co develop part of the site, wouldn't that be cool? No cool is not the right word. Wouldn't that be SMART?
Anyone reading this?
:D

I spoke with Bill Center UT and he said he would pass along my contact info to Jim Bladwin (Quarry owner) so I may have some contact info to pass along.
Steve S., you would probably be the guy to talk to him, yes?

Yes, the board is aware of this.

His name is "Baldwin" and I have it on fairly good authority that one of the intended uses for that "Lot" is autox'ing if all works out as planned.

Oops, my typo, sorry.
That would really be great. I hope the board works with him so the lot is very useable. Sometimes a small change can make a big difference.
Can SDR become an "investor" to get some priority on dates, quality of surface, etc?
:)

Roughly where is this site?

exit Olympic off of the 805, head east. Approximately 20-25 minutes from Clairemont.
come check it out this weekend, there's gonna be a CORR race saturday and sunday. there certainly is plenty of land but i'd imagine that a lot of it has to be moved and/or leveled if you're looking for a parking lot ($$$).

I went down on Saturday and was busting tires with Brian and Kyle for Kumho. Got to catch a couple of the races as well. I recommend if you have the means watch one of these races from the hot pits to get the full effect, nothing like getting pelted with dirt and rocks every time the trucks race by.
They were making announcements during some of the races about the 20 yr plan for the facility, which include paved paddock and parking areas. They do have enough space there if they pave it all to have an autox site in the paddock provided that they don't put up a bunch of buildings, light poles or curbs. The parking lot is very long and narrow, like one El Toro taxiway, but I think it could work also.

If I might chime in here, I could shed a bit of light on the Quarry area where CORR has their track.
Earlier this year I received a call from the CORR race director about returning as an employee rather than a volunteer as in the two years past. Of course I gladly took the job once again as the official starter for the series.
Back in 2005 and 2006, I spoke to Cissy Baldwin (CORR C.O.O.) about the possibility of a future paved area for sports car autocross events. Although I had no current dollar numbers to present, she seemed interested in the idea of building a large paved area to act as the pits for the CORR races which could also be used for other venues.
We have completed six of fourteen rounds of racing this year so far, and the Chula Vista race went very well as far as spectators were concerned. After rounds 7&8 in Lancaster, we will be back to Chula Vista September 28-30th. Then we're off the Texas October 18-20th, followed by Las Vegas November 2-4th. I plan to keep the ball rolling in the Baldwin's mind toward an area for "sports car slalom".

Wow I live like 5 minutes away from that site, it would be great if it is there. I think most likely the new stadium will be in CHula Vista anyway and we could probably use the new stadium lot.
