Hello everyone,

I've never Autocrossed before but am interested in starting this year (SD region of course).
This site and the scca homepage has been very helpful, but I have still been unable to find a clear cut answer to this question..

Are Anti-Lift Kits allowed in competition or practice, and if so what category does it put the car in? I drive a 2000 Impreza RS, and without the anti-lift kit it seems the car would fall into the STS category.. (rear sway, intake, etc)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

sounds like STS.

all suspension mods are legal in STS as long as you use the stock body mounts. in other words, no welding or drilling the body to make something fit.

Whenever I've seen autox discussion on anti-lift kits, they said that it put it way past STS (I think it was past "prepared" to "modded" even). I saw it in either the rules (http://www.scca.org/Solo/Index.asp?IdS=00E027-E671E80&x=050|070&~=) or a condensed version.

It's basically one of those mods that seems minor, but if it's not on the "allowed" list, you can't do it.

What does the kit consist of?

like FROSTY said, doesn't look like anti lift kits are allowed
in STS even if it seems minor, but if u are just starting,
just run as Novice in any hi mod class (DSP, SM, SU)
then after a few events decide what class u think is
more fun to run ur car in....:)

I drive an 01 RS in STS and its always a fun class to run in...

I'm not entirely certain as I lack a full understanding of my (or any) car's suspension. Here's a link (http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/1_5_42_63/products_id/11346) to one at an online retailer.

On another site, a description of the kit talked about relocating a mounting point on the suspension. That's not STS legal and not even Street Prep legal. Street Mod, Prepared or Modified only.

Bob is right, the ALK is a no-no for autocrossing Subies. The amount af caster gained is negligible compared to ST legal camber/caster plates anyhow.
You could get stiffer front control arm bushings that are ST legal.

As Seb said ... you can get stiffer bushings for the rear of the front A arm ... that also are off-set to give a slight amount of added caster. But you can get a lot more caster, plus the camber that you will want ... by going to Camber plates. The thing to do is get round Cusco Camber plates ... have them machined out for a longer slot ... and have new holes added so you can turn the slot 45 degrees inward. Plenty of threads and photos on Nasioc. Also visit Team Blew, Subaru Auto Cross team's web site and message board. http://www.teamblewracing.org/welcome.aspx

Some of our members come down to San Diego for their events. A bunch of us will be in San Diego for the SCCA Solo2 National Tour event in March ... start practicing! ;) See you around.

Of course you don't need to change anything to come out and get started. Just run as a novice in SM or SU and Learn and Have Fun. When you really get into autocrossing (and you will :D ) figure out what class you want to run in and start setting up the car to that class; but don't worry about it now.

Check out the rules here

http://www.scca.org/Solo/Index.asp?IdS=0107CF-4E9E500&x=050|070&~=

Before you come down take a quick read through
Pages 12-14 (what we're doing and a few definitions)
Pages 25-26 (what tech is looking at in your car)
The cliff notes, make sure it is in good mechanical shape and you take all of
Junk out of the car.
Pages 44-45 (how we score knocked down cones)

Have Fun

As Ross rightly points out, don't worry about mods that you have or think you need right now.

Just come out and have fun. Seat time is the place to spend money.

whoa! I thought I was home free with the first STS reply! I just logged on to write back a thank you post.. but it seems like its not as simple as I thought.

So I guess the bottom line though is that I have 3 races where I can enter as a novice (and still legally have the kit), just to feel out the whole situation.

Thank you everyone for all your help. And as far as the specifics of my kit, I'm not too familiar with it myself. I recently bought the car (already modified), and have a lot to learn. I think its just a different mounting bracket which changes the angle on the arm that mounts to it.

Hope to see you guys out there and learn alot this year.

Thanks again.:D

Novice status has nothing to do with the class that your car falls into.

Without removing the kit you can legally run in SM or SU for the next decade if you would like.

Being a novice is separate from where your car is classed.

Take advantage of being a novice, go on the novice coursewalk and get an instructor to ride with you. Don't really worry about your class so much.
