what are the requirements to compete as a novice in a championship event? i have done a couple practice events but i know i'm no pro. will those events disqualify me for the novice class? also, i drive a stock 03 civic si with the excpetion of a catback exhaust, i suppose this will put me in (gs). question is, i will be using my stock 15in. wheels for autox and my 17's for street driving; are slicks a good idea? during practices i didn't bother switching to my stocks and just used my 17's but in order to be in gs, i have to use them. any help is appreciated.

Section 5.6.1 of the SD Region Solo II Supp Regs reads...
"The Novice Class shall be open to anyone who has competed in three or fewer San Diego Region championship events. A participant may only enter the Novice Class three times."

Run the street tires. Just add some pressure to prevent rolling over the edge of the tires. While slicks (which are non-DOT approved tires) are not allowed in stock classes, DOT R tires are. Develop your driving skills, then consider getting some stickier tires later on.

Street tires are good for learning. In fact, I'm going to run them at practices this year (cheeper too). But you will have to run the 15 inch wheels at Champ events, regardless of the tires.

02+ Si's move to HS for '06. Drive on street tires for a season or two. If you jump straight into r compounds you are probably going to overdrive the car and use the tires up really quickly. Sounds like HS is going to be fairly well attended this year.
