ok, So i have been driving with you guys for the past year and it has been awsome! I have found the mixture of my mods and type of car is presenting confusion in the rule book.

I drive a 95 honda del sol (eng type doesn't matter classed the same)
I fit perfectly into STS2 except for my stupid CF hood which i am starting to dislike as it pushed me out of DSP into SM2. I was told i could maybe run STX after talking to a few ppl at the Dec 9th event, but after reading the rule book there is a 4 seat minimum.

So what national street tire class is offered above STS2?
or i guess a legal Local street tire class as well?

I do not want to start another agument about "knowingly running an illegal vehicle in a class" thats why I am posting this.

None, STS2 is the highest street tire class for a 2-seat vehicle. Any CF replacement panels immediately bump to Street Modified (SM2 for you) or Prepared. Ditch the hood, should be fine for STS2.

John,
We (yes we all talked about it) don't care about the hood, stay in STS2. The only time you'll have any problems are the Tours:mad:
But if you have a problem not being totaly legal I'm sure you can trade the carbon hood for a stock one and get some cash too!
good luck,
Steve Coe

Honestly, how much weight does a carbon fiber hood really save you? Locally there's not going to be any problem with you running it, but as steve said the tours could be a little nagging about it. If you really want to stay within the limits I'd say ditch the carbon fiber, too. On the Corvette forum we came in to a discussion about replacing some of our fiberglas parts with carbon fiber and found that the weight loss from it really wasn't worth the cost, because carbon fiber really isn't that much lighter than fiberglas. I'd imagine a sheet of aluminum isn't really but a few pounds heavier than carbon fiber, especially for as small as that car is.

It's either that or go balls out and join us in SM2! :D I'm stuck there just because of a different cam and it's not like SM2 is really that difficult of a class to compete in, at least locally. We need more competition in it anyways.

The cf hood on the 2004 zo6 z16 saves 10 lbs, BFD. Maybe worth it in F1 but Solo?

Hehe well like I said, carbon fiber isn't much lighter than fiberglas. I think I can carry my c3's hood with one hand. Honestly, I think the unpainted look of carbon fiber is kinda hokey. Looks like you can't afford to get the whole car painted. I guess in the import tuner world it means you've got a "Spoon" tuned car, though.

Spoon even paints their cars hoods. Anyhow, its no worse then mustang owners that have unpainted 6" coweled hoods on their oh so wonderful stock LX's *cough* my stupid ex*cough*

We all have a bit of rice in us, no matter what you want to call it.

I refuse to admit to that. :p I've got A LOT more put in to my vette's performance than in to its looks. haha

You beat me every event but you're the only competitor I'm ever remotely close to. :p Keep the CF hood and stay in STS2.

haha, Well my CF hood is painted so i don't have a spoon tuned car i guess lol I guess this is why u build a vehicle for class not try ot find one. Steve and every one else thank you for letting me stay, but feel free to boot me at any time. I will work on finding a hood replacment as well.

I find it kinda odd there is no space in the rule book on body lightening on street tires, i guess it is just assumed you would be a much more race prepared car and be on R comps...??

Ok you get props for having a painted cf hood, then. I had a feeling that you actually did paint yours because I never remember seeing a del sol with an unpainted CF hood and kept scratching my head as to who you might actually be. :p

So as it stands don't worry about it, obviously, but when you get a wild hair I'd ditch fibre for legality. Oh and if you get a chance, see if you can find out what the weight difference between the stock and CF hoods are. I'd think as small as your hood is it wouldn't be much.

Got to think nationally. The general concept is to ST classes to be more of a 'peoples' class. If you allow somethings that seems little (like a carbon fiber hood) then you've effectivally required everyone competiting nationally to go out and buy one.

i believe the savings on my hood is about 10 pounds. Small car but a decently good sized hood.

I get exactly what your saying about the class, so that makes sense.
