Nice smooth practice guys.

No major obsticals.

I think we at least filled up, despite a good number of no shows. We should get a count from Carl pretty quick.

Course was very well received. We've (SCNAX SD) had several good courses in a row now, setting that bar pretty high.

Lots of SCNAX members there helping in the morning. Very much appreciated since so much needed to be done that morning.

Lack of daylight made it a very short day, which made me nervous all day long, but we hustled through it and beat the dusk.

Little light on the pizza dinner, only about 8 of us. We need to work on that, you guys work too hard not to have a piece of pie afterwords.

Next up, K1 Dec 13th!

Awesome, awesome course. Great design.

I agree, GREAT course!

But GEEZE! There were some spots where I JUST DID NOT LEARN to slow down!

Passengers were going

YA YA Chris, I went straight at that turn just like you did! And after I made fun of you too!

You know what W? I was fine with that turn all day until I took Chris as a passenger on my last run. Broke too late and there was nothing I could do but aim for an opening in the cones so the courseworkers didn't hate me. Chris must have been contagious that day.

Thats because I cast a spell on your car while you were working and shot mind bullets at you when you were driving to remind you to NOT brake.

Good course, and it was a course with multiple personalities. In the beginning sweeper section I'd never had that much fun on a course anywhere. I was going EEK! The slaloms were nice to practice on, as I need to work on those. But then the downhill off-camber right-hander and the top at the 180 degree + chicago box where it seemed like you had to tighten your line forever were both good learning opportunities, despite all the cussing going through my head :D Good job Reijo

Thanks to Bruce. Warren doesn't like hearing thanks. I'm all Integra'd out but you guys pulled through to give me a ride. I'll get you soon for real Bruce!

Great course, and overall a great day autocrossing. Sorry I had to bail on dinner, but the family had a home-cooked meal waiting

I loved that hairpin into the chicago box! Great course; great event; and a great club to be a part of! I would have went to the outing afterwards but I didn't want to bring the spirits down by ordering a salad when everyone is eating pizza = )! But see you guys all on the 13th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One thing is for sure - numerous SCNAX members really liked their own course ;)

DCCSD members also really liked the course. Fun, fast, many ways to set up for different elements. Most fun I've had on a local course in ages.

Very cool course. Was it me or did anyone else notice a higher grip level?

I too (SDAD) want to chime in and say how much I enjoyed the course as well. I never got the hairpin at the Chicago box completely right and this course exposed new things for me to work on in the car as well. My car didn't work well on slow-speed turns but I was able to hold 1.4 Gs on some of the higher speed stuff. My mentor (aka Fiat Charlie) says that I might try dialing back my castor so I'll do that for the next event.

It was a nice low-stress day and I want to thank the admins of the event for being flexible with my various noise and mechanical problems.

I haven't been having issues with the sound meter since going to FI from the dual carbs but I was again in the 93's on my 2nd and 3rd runs so I had to pull out and put on a SuperTrap. Interestingly I only blew 88 on the next run. I have dyno'd the car with and without the SuperTrap and know that it takes away 2HP (2%) but that's fine with me if it keeps us from getting kicked out of the lot.

AGAIN, GREAT JOB!

Was it me or did anyone else notice a higher grip level?I did to. The old Ecsta 700s seemed to be working pretty well that day, especially under breaking (their normal weak point). Don't know what the differance was.

My well-worn 710s seemed to grip unusually well, too. Perhaps the cool morning somehow helped.

Good info. I ran very worn tires (Azenis 215's) and had spikes of 1.15 G's and sustained in .9x G's. Weird because I've had spikes to 1.00 G's and sustained in .8x G's in prior events in similar elements on stickier tires (Azenis 215's and 615's). Oh well, I guess I didn't accidentally stumbled into an uber-grip setup. :p :p :p

Thanks for the compliments everyone! Glad you enjoyed the course - that was the whole point.

My intentions/philosophy originally was to design a fairly simple course so people could work on their car setup and driving techniques without having to worry about the course too much (hence the equal separation for all slalom cones in their respective location).

However upon further contemplation, I decided to add the "difficult" Chicago Box on the top with the view that practice entering a difficult element was also important! It should have been a lesson in looking ahead......virtually backwards in direction in order to line up the box. ;)

And, finally, I've always liked a course to flow, personally, which means in general allowing vehicles to get to speed and more or less stay in 2nd gear throughout the course (stay away from dead slow slaloms and hairpin turns).

So, judging from the comments I think it worked out - thanks again.....and glad you enjoyed the experience.

Put me down for +1 on enjoying the course too.

Chris, yeah it looks inevitable you will indeed catch me someday; you are picking this up entirely too quickly. Good job.

Sorry to rain on the parade though as I do have one complaint area on the event and that was on the course working.

First, having run groups of 20 for such a long course seemed too small (either that or people just were not being used effectively) IMO. My section did not have any particular cones that got hit too regularly [ except by Durst :-( ] but since I was covering from the middle of the 1st downhill turnaround (midway across the top and about 2 big turns before the "box"... where a couple of people mowed down ~5 cones at a time) to all the way down past the sound meter and including the box cones at the top of the hill, that was just too much distance to cover for an old crippled goat like me to cover.

And second, towards the end of the day whomever was working that section had basically given up since there were around 5 cones spewed throughout that section on my final run including one cone that had been down for my final 3 runs.

So SCNAX please pay a little more attention to work assignments and/or make the groups more like 22 or 23 instead of 20.

Otherwise, it was an enjoyable event, thanks.

Bruce

PS. Mark, you weren't that bad, I was just teasing you since you had given me a bad time... but I think you did hit cones on 3 different occasions out of your 6 runs.

I think Bruce has a point (not just for this practice - but for all of them) Once you subtract people for gate, trailer, sound, reg., tech., etc it can leave course a bit light.

Maybe we need to up the practice limit a few cars. I think this could be done & not subtract from # of runs & I don't mean 100 or more. maybe 88 with four groups, that's 2 xtra bodies for course if I calc it right.

While a desire to set ALL the cones for EVERY run is a laudable goal, it is not necesary for a practice. If you cannot get to it, do it the next run. I don't care how many workers are at a particular place, if someone hits 5 cones in one place they more than likely won't all get reset.

As my club should know by now, I will vote against increasing entries beyond 80 EVERY time. Of course it is up to the Event Chair and the vote does not mean much.

But a down cone in a practice does not mean much either.

BTW Bob, at ALL our events tech and reg (and often gate) are considered 'Club Jobs' and nobody is used from the 'public' worker list. And you can add computers to those two for Champ events. However, because we get a LOT of club entries for practices that 'public' list can still be small, so your overall point is still valid.

I subscribe to the James GW cone theory - disclose time - ignore cones/DNF

(unless you are named Gary, Leslie or Barbara where all cones are monitored)!

Well I WAS happy to get in, the only practice I ever get into at Fontana is the one my club (GRA) puts on. Man it's tough to get into a practice up there.

:)
