I better see a flyer for sign-ups soon! I've missed 2 events now and refuse to miss one more! I've gotta figure out how to make my fiberglas boat keep up with your little tin cans eventually! :p

Is it going to be $45 for registration like the last practice and is it going to be pre-register?

Flyer was sent out minutes ago. It'll take a little time to get on the page though.

Help me out here. I think the schedule means everyone has to be there all day to expect to get all his 12 runs??
Schedule doesn't seem to resemble any I've seen in previous practice flyers this year. "Rest" means no runs for that color group, in that heat; right?
Can a newbie get a card at the event? Can he (pre)register first?
Thanks,
Stupid
P.S. Okay, I dug around and found that schedule used up Nawrth, but I still don't completely get it. Makes it tough to do a half a day, if you can't be there in either the A.M. or the P.M.

This schedule is used often.
Practices are full day more often than not.
Run means you're taking runs, work means you're working, Rest means you're doing nothing.
I'd rather give existing card holders priority, if the entries aren't shaping up we can revisit it.
The schedule isn't made to do half a day. The concept of this practice is to run and feel out your car and yourself then run again later to test out your tweeks. Its a test and tune.

This is my favorite kind of practice because I learn the most. I'd prefer that all practices be in this format but I think the clubs do a good job of mixing it up.

In this type of format I can make changes to the car and compare their effects. And more importantly I can make changes in the driver's approach and compare effects. I just got a new data logger and this will be my first chance to really use it to better my driving. I'm really excited to play with my new toy!
But packing all the runs together is more convenient because it doesn't have to be an all-day thing and having runs closer together is probably more entertaining as far as adrenaline goes.
We're all just so lucky to live in SoCal and get as much seat time as we do with all the great clubs and volunteers that make this happen. The guy that sold me my car lives in Seattle and he told me that their season is only 3 events and you are guaranteed that at least 1 and sometimes all of them will be in the rain.
I'm really excited to play with my new toy!
Now don't you just sound like an eager little kid!?!? We're just all little boys and girls when it comes to playing toys. Let's just hope you learned to share = ).

This format also gives you a chance to ride with others and learn.
And for them to ride with you and give you feedback.
You can make changes to your car and see the effects and have the chance to change it back.
Yes it's an all day thing - but not a bad way to spend a day!
PS - Alex what changes need to be done to your car?
According to Charlie that car came perfect from the factory!

I see. Thanks for the replys, guys.
I guess I like the schedule where you work once and have the rest of the day to run. GRA used to do that.
Diversity is good.

That's really funny, Mark!
Back in 1974 it probably handled like it was on rails compared to the cars of the day like an Olds Vista Cruiser or the sporty Chevy Vega! But 32 years later some minor updating and tuning is required to stay ahead of those pesky C-cars (Civics and Corvettes). :p The X1/9 came with 5" rims and 80 series tires.
For reference and fun...

GOSH! I'm getting old!

PS Charlie is a better driver than me so he can take an out of the box car and do good things with it while I need some help.

Umm... do we have the list of people who made it into this practice yet? And maybe the standby list?
Thanks!

I'd say for championships we 'usually' come down the hill in a counter clockwise direction. But it's not like we do it 100% of the time.
And you have mail.

I'd say we had a pretty good mix of CW vs CCW this year. I think if you really wanted to mix it up you could grid at the top of the hill. I've only seen it a few times... you do lose some of the higher speed elevation changes, but at least it's different.
RandyC

The main reason we have fewer grids at the top of the hill are:
1. We don't get as much of the lot as you might think. The area near the trolley tracks can't be used by us for a course (though in the more recent years we certainly have gotten a lot closer to it). But we could paddock there. If you grid at the top... you lose all that area around and under the trolley tracks as far as usable space.
2. If you decide to not cross the ditch, you also lose all that space since it is not used for paddock from the top. When you grid at the bottom, you can use some of that space for the start, grids, and/or paddock.
If you look at an overhead view, gridding at the top of the hill means a smaller course area. Not that one can't make a nice long course from the top of the hill.
