i work at K1 speed and have driven speed circuit many times before i worked at K1, so i am decent (not pro by any means). I would maybe have to go do some practice laps to get familiar with thier karts again but no biggy. K1 karts are electric but i am sure i will pick up speed circuit pretty quick.... how much and how long of an enduro? I can maybe be apart of your team.

Too bad it's that close, otherwise I'd definitely team up. I've rocked miramar speed circuit a few times and live literally right down the street from there. If I were to tell the doctors about that they'd probably pewp a brick. lol

Damn jerkwad rear ending me on my motorcycle... >_<

Details of the endurance race:

Rules of the race:
http://www.fxracingusa.com/articles/EnduanceRules.asp

the discrepancy for weight is pretty fair, about as fair as you could make it for indoor karting. last race was actually pretty exciting. the top 3 teams, most of them compromised of kids, were spread apart by a second towards the end of the race. beating those 3 teams is gonna be pretty tough for the heavier folks but it can be done :D

If I can use an alias and put a cushion on my cart seat I could take em. ;) I only weigh 140 - 150. :D

Oooh I see there's one in December, too! *scratches chin*

was "sho-go" one of the kids on the team? that kid is stupid fast although he is like 10 an wieghts 100 pounds or less but he does still know how to drive very well.

brian

he was one of them, he's got the "light-weightedness" technique going on.

So that's how that shogo person is like stupid fast on that course! I figured they worked there or something, because they seem to be there the same days as I've gone and on the paper I notice the top time of the day and he's always got it. >_< Well if he weighs like 100 lbs. he gets like a 6 second penalty. hah!

I'm going to sign up today, hopefully you guys aren't all talk...;)

brian

220 lbs is still competitive at miramar. there's a quite a few fast 200+ lbs drivers. besides, in a race like this, it's a matter of how consistent you are. of course to really push the limits of "endurance", i think they should really do 250 laps with a maximum of 3 pit stops :D. then people will start making errors as they grow more tired.

All we have seen is talk all around...and maybe an interesting marketing technique. :)

So can anyone sign up for this event, even those who have not ever driven carts? Myself and some friends would like to make a group. I am the least experienced but my friends are from Italy and have been racing since they were wee lads. Whos in charge of the pits at the event, the racers or the staff?

brian

anyone should be able to sign up. you don't need any prior experience to race this event, though it might be a good idea to see what the kart/track is all about before racing.

most "teams" at the last event and the one before that were just two man teams. if you read the rules, everytime you pit, you're accessed a team "rewards weight time", meaning....the lighter your team is, the longer you'll be held in the pits (ie 10 seconds) as oppose to a heavier team (ie 5 seconds). i'm sure this is more explicitly stated in the rules posted, if not, they'll explain it at the event. so if your team has more than two, and if everyone who paid wants to drive, that's a lot of time wasted in the pits, which is probably why most teams in the previous events were just two man teams (obviously there must be a mandatory pit stop since a team must have at least two drivers).

the staff is in charge of accessing "rewards weight time" whenever a team decides to pit. other than that, you're free to pit whenever and as often as you'd like during the race.

if this event continues to grow, they probably should split the classes up to more specific weight categories.

I signed up by myself today for $165. They said they could put me on a team or with another "solo driver." None of my girlfriends want to race but they say they'll come to cheer me on! :p

Enter in the december 27th endurance race and you can compete against me. ;) My buddy will be down for the holidays that week and I bet he'll want to enter, too. I wish I could do it this month, but I remember how bad my back hurt just from 15 minutes of it last time and I can't imagine how much that would just screw up my injuries right now. @_@

I went to Speed Circuit a couple times to practice for the Endurance race...I'm getting a lot better! Although, I don't know what is considered "good" so I'm not sure if I'm on par with other drivers.

If I enjoy this months endurance race then I will definately sign up in December.

Thanks for the positive comments Brian. Yes, there is a distinct advantage in weight however we've done our best to develop a system that takes everything into consideration (using multiple karts, variation in teams, etc.). It simple not feasible to bolt weight onto indoor karts in a timely manner.

What has developed, with increased interest, is the need to develop two weight class in addition to the handicapping system. To date we've had an average of 7 teams compete. As we're able to fill the grid, we will expand to have to classes.

Additionally, the next race, November 29, is our 5th event. Competition has become closer at each event and we'll continue to look at ways to improve. To date, we've hosted 100 lap events - however look(not confirmed) for a 200 lap event for December.

Any questions??? feel free to reach me at kart@fxracingusa.com

In cold conditions, a "good" lap would be low 34s for your average driver and low 33s for the faster drivers. In slick conditions, such as the day of and about two days after oil has been laid down on the track or in the case of an endurance race, a "good" lap would be low 33s for your average driver and low 32s for the faster drivers. Nonetheless, if you guys compete in the upcoming FX endurance race, I'll come watch since I'm not allowed to participate because I am an employee.
And...John, since when did you start working at K1? How about we set up some sort of "inside competition between K1 and the Speed Circuit?" Muahah.......that would be great. We'll just have a little friendly rivalry warfare between the two. Either way, see you guys at the December 3rd practice.

How come??? I left once for two months but somehow found my way back because I couldn't stay away from those karts despite of how long I have already played with them. That's funny what you said because we were planning to do the exact same thing! Hahaha! I'll going there when SCNAX has its event and wear my Miramar Speed Circuit shirt :D

I'm still waiting for a karting place to open near me! John, I heard from an employee the last time I was at K1 in Carlsbad, that they were thinking of opening one up in Temecula. PLEASE tell me that is true. ;)

Two PCA regulars drivers were definitely the unofficial winners of the "over 150lb" drivers at the last event. Our qualifying index does seem to work quite well position a 174lb driver on pole last race with less than 0.01 of a second separating the top 4.

The indexing for the race is a bit tougher to do. With the past race's experience, we will be re-evaluating the curve. Expect it to further help the heavier drivers for the next round.

The next Indoor Endurance Challenge is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec 27. It will be the final race of 2006.

We've doubled the lap count to 200 and kept the entry fee the same. Form a team and break out of the winter racing blues. PCA drivers have proved they have the endurance - any AutoX'ers have what it takes for karts?...and yeah SPARCO podium prizes as well.
