10-13-2006, 03:59 PM
Just a reminder, the event will be SUNDAY Oct 22 (not Saturday as printed up on the original snail mail flyers)
FINAL (I hope) UPDATE 10/21/06 the practice is now full and there are 21 people on the wait list
A couple more reminders:
1) people without San Diego Region (green) cards should show up a bit early to purchase them BEFORE checking in at registration
2) everyone will need to fill out an entry card like a race day including: run group/work group, SCCA # (if you have one), SDR#, name, address, phone#, driver's lic #, and sign the card.
3) Also have your SCCA card (if you have one), valid drivers license, and 2006 SDR card with you.
4) *** ENTRANTS SHOULD CHECK IN WELL BEFORE 9AM FOR GROUPS 1&2 AND BEFORE 11:30 FOR GROUPS 3&4 since THE WAY THE WAIT LIST WILL WORK is that somewhere around 8:45 in the morning, anyone not checked in for groups 1&2 WILL FORFEIT THEIR PLACE and we will start calling names off the wait list at the registration table. People on the wait list that are there when their name is called are in.
Thank you.

Sweet you got my entry, that means. Any hints of how the course is going to be laid out this time? Tight and twisty? Long and curvy? Point and shoot?

Steve Coe is setting up the course (like it says on the flyer;) ) and he said something like that he was going to set up a course that "flowed". Steve runs C2 Motorsports out in Kearny Mesa and has many years of experience in a wide variety of pro racing forms, so I am looking forward to what he will prepare, although I don't know if he has actually designed an autox course before or not; hopefully he will chime in.
Since I have never seen a Steve Coe course before I can only assume, but based on his statement and given that he drives a Miata I am guessing it will tend more towards a "speed maintenance" (or as you put it, a combination of mostly "long and curvey" with maybe some "tight and twisty") type course instead of a point and shoot type.
Personally, I prefer when course designers add roughly equal amounts of all the different types.

Having ridden with Steve on course in a multitude of vehicles, when he says "flows," I immediately think "fast and sideways". :D

I was playing GT4 with him at the store the other day. Dude is so good! He would pass me get ahead... stop and wait... go backwards on the course.. and still beat me.

Too bad I won't be able to see Steve's course.

Steve has a habit of turning around or stopping, to play with his competition. Just don't let the road block catch you out. ;)
I am really disapointed I will not get to drive Steve's course, as he has soooo much experience. Everyone should take the opportunity to go to this practice. I'm doing the cup'.

Hmmmm flowing course... I wonder if I'll have time to get my vortec heads machined, polished, and installed this week... I could really use the extra power for a course like that.

Talk about putting the pressure on! Wow! Thanks for the complements too. I’m using the map from the Sept 10th SDAD event. I loved the course, but the course was hard to read from the way the cones were laid out. I hope I can improve on a good course design. If you like it, it was my idea, if you don’t blame SDAD!
Andrew I remember the day I took you for a ride in my ‘ol CSP RX7. That was a blast!
As far as GT4 goes “Meangreencivic” will be the one to kick my a** once he gets more track time. You’ve got great natural talent Chris. I hope you get a pro ride someday. You’d be worth it. Just don’t go NASCAR…LOL

Your too kind Steve. For those of you who are going to the practice, don't be surprised if the course bears a striking resemblance to Midfield Raceway on GT4 :p

If it resembles midfield, I'll really get some use out of my new Vortec heads then. :D I just dropped the old girl off at Lee's Automotive down in Lemon Grove today, can't wait to get it back with the new heads on. Should give me some good power where it's really needed.

I'm not actually an expert, but from what I've seen maybe half a dozen or so on the day of the event, and there may still be some cancellations before the Thursday deadline (in fact, I have heard a rumor of 1 already). But I am sure the number varies.

If you're really nice to the registration people and get there first you might have a better chance, too. :D

How'd the practice go? I wish I coulda gone! :( I heard it was a great track for Corvettes, too! Freaking accident and the mechanic screwing things up for me. At least someone on the waiting list probably got my spot so all is well as far as that goes. What was the top time?

I think the Yellow Lotus (race car) did a crazy 53 or there abouts.
Jeff C and Gary T were playing in the 55/56 zone. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Oh and a blast from the past Tom H. put some fresh tires on his LT4 and wasted the course doing a low 57. Took a couple of rides with him in the 58's that I'll never forget. Thanks Tommy.
:)
And thanks Steve C for showing how a west lot course can be designed
with all cars getting a good fun day's workout. That was a practice to go down in the books.
If you missed it you missed a classic, beautiful, SDR event.

Awww I so wish I coulda driven that event!! So the course was sweet then? Our newbie course designer did a good job, eh? Glad to hear it, maybe he can design some more, since everyone liked it, I guess. Hopefully I'll be back for the November 12th event, providing that my vette is able to be back on the road and my back isn't still fractured. >_<
I'll have to go over to Miramar speed circuit at lunch a few times before the 12th so I can get some semi-decent practice in. lol

Andrew informed me that the course had multiple 3rd gear spots, which I would have loved to have driven. A glimpse back into the world of going road racing speed through corners. I miss it.
Steve is far from a nubie course designer. Hopefully SDAD can make another fast course next event.

I better get to drive a course by Steve some time soon. Otherwise I'll have to sue Lee's automotive AND whomever hit me for making miss out on such a course!
So not fair! :(

Thanks for the complements. Corvette course hell!! I had a blast in my STS2 Miata. I think I was the biggest critic of the event though. It was faster than I wanted it to be. Don’t get me wrong, it was really fun but not what I wanted in a solo course. I guess my BGR and road racing heritage came out. Ahh, the BGR sweeper…. But no “Fingers of Doom” LOL
For the newer crowd, BGR was a member club in the pre SCCA days. They always ran the same course, 40 feet wide everywhere, a big sweeper at the top of the hill next to Friars Road (yes longer than Sunday’s event) I can’t describe the “fingers”… an optional section of the course? And still with a 40’ wide course, a First gear turn at the finish. BTW we can thank BGR for Work/Run events. Prior to then, you didn’t have to work an event if it wasn’t your club! God am I old or what???
Thanks again
Steve Coe
