Hold on, while I foam at the mouth.

As I recall at the last Del mar event, the surface didn't get too rutted or anything. Has anyone tried to run a stiff sprung auto-x type setup out there?

Not an ideal set up, but you can get away with it. The surface is soft, so if your chassis bottoms out you won't hurt anything.

Basically, if it's a truck, you can enter truck class or your respective CRS class and compete against the cars. As of right now, there are 41 entries - none in truck class so far.

I'll be reg-ing on Friday. I'm shooting to rent a Focus, so if anyone was wanting to run, but doesn't have a ride, just split the rental fee.(about $45) :)

I'd be up for it, but I'm only 23 so that makes it more expensive to rent or complicated if I wreck it.

Well, in the event of a water landing (or tree landing), there are four direct emergency exits. One to each side, and two to the rear. Find the best/closest available exit, and proceed with caution. Upon exiting the vehicle, find the nearest co-pilot, throw the keys immediately to them, and claim you have no idea how you even got to Del Mar. At that point, the new pilot thanks heaven that full insurance was paid for on the vehicle. ;) :p

is the course layout going to be tight as hell like the first glen helen rally cross or will it be like the last time at del mar?

Should be more open like the second GH. Probably not much so as the first Del Mar though since we'll be trying get multiple cars on course at the same time.

3 or 4 depending on turnout - all runs count - scoring is the cumulative total.

I've got a stock car lined up (read stock as in unmodified:p ) with Frosty. Anyone else want in on it? :)

If there was a tad bit more clearance, I'd sooooo love to rent a GT-H. Unfortunately, you scrape on speed bumps with the damn things, but it'd still be interesting.

All of the other CRS RallyX venues now handle the trucks that way. In addition, truck entries are sporadic in number and, hypothetically speaking, it's "better" for insurance reporting if we were to roll a "R4" class car than a "Truck".

Or don't roll anything.

Does this mean that giant chevy truck that almost rolled last time wouldn't be allowed to race? You know the one, with 4 full doors, long bed, lifted, and had 3 passengers as ballast most of it's runs.

I drove a couple months ago at the El Toro autocross practice. A dune-buggy showed up, a four-seater with a rear mounted V8. I'm still kicking myself for not taking my camera when I was working the course. Watching that thing come toward me through the chicane was terrifying. Not for my safety - for the driver's. The rear tires were rolling side to side about 6" off the rim - no kidding. I can't believe they allowed it to continue the rest of the day.

I had fun, waiting to see the times, I know i was .2 off the guy ahead of me, damn cones.

Fun runs were a blast, I swear if they counted those, I would have got a medal.

Mr. Kakitani, you are very amazing to watch. So smooth, it always amazes me.

Stupid Aveo. Next time I'm renting one of those. :p Congrats Aveo driver's. :)

Had a great time. There are some pics of the black 240sx on the bigfish website. I got a few pics as well, but it'll take a little bit to do the resize. Note to self, big engine + heavy car = lots of cones.

So when's the next one? I think I'll be racing my own freaking car next time. The surface was definitely drop friendly for the morning session.

I'm pretty sure that those results aren't quite accurate. :p But it can be agreed upon that the G6 is not a suitable rallyx vehicle, and I should be shot for thinking we could make it work. :o

Yeah, congrats to Carl and Andy, 1st and 3rd in the Aveo. It looks like I did terrible. There was no 'live' scoring going on, but I had the feeling Andy was edging me out. Well at least I got introduced to Ivan 'Ironman' Steward.

A bird told me the Nov Del Mar event isn't going to happen. If some of you guys got hooked, I'm chairing several events out in the Johnson Valley OHV (Near Lucerne Valley). First one is Oct 14th and a second event on the 15th, hoping for 8 runs/entry. I'll advertise in another thread, but here is the event's web page (http://www.johnsonvalleyrallyx.com).

I have 99.9% faith in the accuracy of the posted results - if you feel you did better than you did, you might want to look at the results w/o drop column as it moves some people +/- 6 places or more had the event used "normal" RallyX rules.

Jayson's little birdie is correct - next Del Mar may happen in December but nothing else can be confirmed right now.

His events will be worth the drive up to Lucerne Valley - you'll trade drive time on the way there for seat time when you get there but he should offer the most seat time of any CRS RallyX this season.

I'm not complaining. :)

Anyway, here's some pics I snapped. I ran first, shot second, and third, then ran out of memory and skin to burn, so took off. How many fun runs did people get? I thought for sure the event would last till dark without fun runs.

That's always good to hear. I put the pressure up in the rental, but I heard o lot of guys left them at standard street pressures. Is one method better than the other? I know I was talking it over with Jayson and it seems as though both have their downsides.

It’s basically a risk/reward ratio – in Rally/RallyX softer tire pressures equate to more bite in 99% of all cases – but the softer you go, the greater the risk of blowing a bead. I advise people to start at 35psi cold in all four tires for street tires and work from there.

At some venues, for example, the Jean, NV lakebed, people would drop as low as 20-24 to get bite in the silt and since there was nothing hard to peel a bead off, there was no risk. On the other hand, at a rough venue such as Ridgecrest, we’ll see blown beads at 44+PSI.

Del Mar is very tricky – in both cases, I think the blow bead was related to a cheap, worn tire itself – at least in the case of the Focus that blew the tire, those were barely roadworthy to start with. I think you can run Del Mar at street or lower pressures and be fine.
