So when do we start getting dates from Qualcomm? When was the last time we had a race in January in San Diego?

Is it too late to get a date at Soak City for January 2006? I can't imagine they have alot going on down there this time of the year. Or I have 2 1/2 acres we could set up a little dirt autoX track here.

The dates will be decided next week as far as which dates are available, and there are some in January now, but you take a chance with the potential of the Chargers making the playoffs of being booted out.

So next week, the clubs that use Q will sit down and hash out (arm wrestle) who gets what date. SDR will walk away with a list of dates we have reserved. Then the club reps/board meet to determine the calendar, which dates are championship, practice... and are there dates to discard to turn into something else like our December school.

Once the calendaring is done, the clubs draw straws to determine the order of selection. Then clubs get asked if they want the day/weekend. If they decline, the next club is asked. Rinse, repeat.

Soooo... the downside of the process is what happens in January. We don't do this until the first meeting in January which will be January 2nd by the way. If we had a date in January, it would mean asking a club if they are willing to host it, on pretty short notice.

By the way.. as of now, Jan 7-8 (NFL Wildcard Weekend) is open on all lots. Jan 14-15 (NFL Divisional Playoffs) is open on the west and southeast lots. Jan 28-29 is open on the west lot. So it is a pretty open month.

February 4-5 is also open, but it is Superbowl weekend (played in Detroit).

I emailed scca re: SDR tour, they are waiting on us for dates.

Hah! 3 years ago LA had more than 350 entrants on Super Bowl Sunday. It sucked.

Took the family to Disneyland once on SB Sunday. It was great, zero lines.

Remember the Rodney King riots? Best Disneyland day ever. The place was empty.

Novice Question:
What is the SCCA National Tour and how does it differ from a normal autox day?

It's your chance to drive against the fastest drivers on the west coast and some of those landlocked states in the mountain time zone, plus the really crazy people driving out from the midwest and the east coast. All of whom happen to be SCCA members.

Or, if you're not competing, it's your chance to help run an event that attracts the fastest drivers on the west coast and some of those landlocked states in the mountain time zone, plus the really crazy people driving out from the midwest and the east coast. All of whom happen to be SCCA members.

Then there's ProSolo... Autox on crack. :D

So it's a way to get whooped on by the best of the best... great...

More serioulsy, it sounds worthwhile to participate in. I don't think I will this year; two days in one weekend is a huge commitment for what amounts to little more than practice and the "I raced against so-and-so and just ate his dust."

That's a good assesment for rookies. Be sure to come out and watch.

You're assuming, of course, that his dust won't have settled by the time you get to it. :D

I don't plan on eating anyone's dust. Inhale, cough, and hack up a lung, maybe, but not eat... it's just not tasty.

I don't know Scott, I'm partial to a vintage Goodyear racing slick with a nice chianti. :D

Chianti won't have nearly a strong enough flavor to compliment a racing slick. Might I suggest a vintage Bordeaux or a Syrah from Santa Maria Valley?

Oh, and a nice, stinky cheese, too.

Good point. Maybe a robust Pinot Noir [hard to find] and some gorgonzola.

I was thinking Stilton, but gorgonzola would probably work better.

Hmm, the hard part is trying to plan your schedule to happen with a riot!

Great idea. Next time there's a race riot lets all go to Hollywood Park and AutoX!

Wouldn't it be counter productive if we all went and autoxed if we're trying to avoid crowds?

Even worse... I'd be concerned if autox turnout is smaller because of a riot. What sort of crazies am I entrusting my life to when I'm working a corner... wait- each event I go to I end up dodging a car.
