Ken Hoppenrath....

For those of you that may know Ken Hoppenrath, BS RX8 #146 in San Diego Region, he passed away on Monday. He was a long time road racer and after retiring from motorsports for some time he took up autocrossing with his 2006 RX8 in May. Services will be at the Alhiser-Comer Mortuary in Escondido at 10:00am on Tomorrow. For directions call 760-745-2162.:(

Very sad to hear this. :(

I met Ken at the SCNAX practice in April. He had just bought his car and was checking out the event. After discussing our RX-8s for a while I offered to give him some rides in my car. After a couple of "interesting" runs that looked more like a drifting contest (worn rear tires) Ken was understandibly a little nervous about trying this on his own. He got over it and had run at most of the champ events since then.

I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a real nice guy and was really having fun getting into autox.

RIP Ken.
