Okay guys, SDAD has approved holding the second anual SDR Chili Cook Off during their AutoX Championship.
Last year we got 5 pots of very different chilis and despite a light turn out for the event (it conflicted with the ProSolo Finale) we ran completely out. That was over 5 gallons worth of chili!!!
So we can use all the participants we can get.
I'll bring all the acessories; cups, tasting spoons, crackers, drinks etc. Along with a small generator for powering crock pots. I have a coleman grill, but will be using it myself, so if you need a flame, bring your own.
There are no rules to speak of except bring an ingrediants list to post for those with restricted diets. Anything you would deam of as 'chili' is welcome to participate.
The Chili extravaganza will be near Tech. I'll set up a table or two and a canopy. I'd like to have the Chili ready to serve by 11, so plan your cooking/warming accordingly.
Those that want to bring a pot, chime in here so I know what to expect.
Those that just like chili are welcome to comment.
mmm... Chili.

Just to put you all on guard.
I made three 'test pots' this weekend. Two recipes from last year and a new turkey chili. They all came out pretty good, but the new recipe needs some tweaking.
After last years cook off, my wife went and bought me the largest non-commercial crock pot I've ever seen. Its actually an 18qt over roaster. I made one 'full' batch of chili back in January that I'm still trying to finish off. Since my 'Molten Pylon' was by far my most popular, I'm going make it in this pot to more than double up over last year.
I'll be bringing back last years Vegetarian chili as well. Even if you’re a pure carnivore, try a little its pretty good.
Since I have a 4th vessel now, I might actually bring a 4th pot. Haven't really decided on what just yet, we'll see what I have time for.

Back from my trip in BFE, Oregon. To my surprise they had a Labor day fair, which included some chili cooking. I think every resident in the area was there, all 40 of them. Most the chilis were passe to my pallet, but I did find one particularly good one and learned a few secrets I'll employ from him. Should make the stuff a little leaner too.
So far its looking like three or four of us. I've got Carl, Stephen (stephenrx7), myself and maybe Mike in the 'exhibition' category :-).
Shopping starts tonight!!

Can't promise I'll have time but I'll try to bring a pot!

Mike that sweet and sour meathballs recipe sounds delicious. Even if it doesn't count as chili I am sure everyone wouldn't mind a great tasting appetizer to start with :) .

Mostly done with cooking. I'm loading up the car with generator, tables, gas drinks, coolers, etc, etc.
I just bought a 10x20 canopy thing that I haven't even had a chance to open. I'll bring that and hope its not too complicated to set up.
Oh, and the hot stuff is really hot.
So try to be ready to serve and eat about 11am near tech.

Good stuff Jayson and others that made chili. I tried it all, liked Jayson's hot version with a little bit his medium mixed in to tone it down just a bit. Too much heat can hide some of the flavors. Thanks!!
