The first GT4 tournament is in the books. The track used was the flowing and fast Midfield track. All competitors used the game's mildly modified Toyota Spider with soft tires and drivers aids off. Choice of transmission and controller was up to the driver.

In the first round of the double elimination tournament, Conor Haley qualified on pole. After several rounds of eliminations, Scott Lewis faced off against Nick Braddy for the championship. The early laps had some fabulous dicing, with Scott edging ahead toward the end of the third lap when Nick got loose under braking. Scott kept it together for the win, despite of the pressure of a looming appointment with his fiance to get a wedding license. For his effort, Scott won a $50 gift certificate.

In the bonus final, Scott squared off against shop champion Steve Coe. The track and car combination picked by an unbiased event official (that would be me) was the tough streets of Seattle course in wild and woolly Cobras.

Steve pulled out to a large early lead. Then in a rare show of cockiness (yeah, right) Steve pulled over to let Scott close. Scott repaid the favor by pulling ahead and never looking back despite all of Steve's best efforts (which included a reverse kamikaze run which Scott adroitly avoided). Scott finished with a relatively easy win, and was awarded the God of GT4 certificate and an additional $25 store credit.

I think everyone had a great time. Thanks to Greg Woelke for logistic and referee support, and to Larry Chan for his technical expertise.

Well... We never made it down to the county office to get that marriage license after all. It was a surprise to see my fiance Judy stop by to check out the action and she was welcomed by the staff. She 'let' me stay to race with the expectation I might lose and we could leave earlier. But, she was happy to see me do well.... Yes dear.... We will still get the marriage license soon.

Thank you to the staff of C2 and to the competitors who made for a great audience. I may have gotten the "chair slide 'T' bone" toward the end of the finals, but the staff felt sorry for me and still awarded me the win. I feel so special.

I was really looking forward to having Steve "The Czar" Coe wash my car too. Thats ok. I will let him rotate the air in my tires instead.
As for Conor and Nick... Great racing guys! I believe Nick and I passed each other at least 6 times in the final 4 lap race.

Hey that was a fun time. The competition was amazing considering the best competitors weren't young teenaged boys.:D I was dissapionted that I didn't get another race against you Scott, but you beat me fair and square. I will prove my eminence in GT4 next year......:p Thanks Steve for letting me in the tournament even being 2 hours late....

I'll just say that it isn't good to drift during your qualifying laps. :D
