I mentioned to Warren that I thought I saw a conflict in schedule coming, but I was mistaken. SCNAX Cup in LA is scheduled for 10/21 & 22.
It looking like our next hosted event in San Diego will be the Oct 7th.

Cool. It seemed like there wasn't gonna be a SCNAX cup this year. I'd like to participate since it sounds like a lot of fun. Who wants to be on my team? :D

Hehe, I figured it wouldn't be too hard to find people to drive my car. I'll probably end up getting to drive a bunch of jalopies in return. :)
Should be fun and a good learning experience to drive something different for a change.

Actually, in previous years the handicapping meant having a novice driver who improved at the Cup was a huge benefit. Ask my teammates from the first 3 years. :D

Jason, there's a special 'street tire' rule you might be interested in. If your qualifying times are on R-comps and you switch to street tires for the cup you get an additional index (.980 I think). This rule was set up to give people the option of not tearing up race tires, 24 runs/car over the weekend you know.

Dime Tour:
SCNAX cup is a team event that is run in the 'background' of a 2day practice. Teams of 4 drivers get together with four distinct cars. Each driver drives each car 6 times through the course. 6 runs Sat morn, 6 runs Sat afternoon, 6runs Sunday morn and 6runs Sunday afternoon. Your top 3 runs of each set count.
To qualify as a team you must have at least two different drive vechicles. No all FWD, AWD or RWD teams. Karts get some special allowances.
To level the playing field everyones times are PAXed by the car their driving then passed through a personal handicap index. The personal handicap index similar to a bowling handicap that is based on the average PAX differential to the top PAX driver for the three most recent championships the driver has participated in. Its not as complicated of a calculation as it sounds.
Then we race, trophies will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. Then we also have the side trophies of MVP Driver Award – The individual with the lowest fully indexed total time. PAX Drive Award – The individual with the lowest car PAX only total time. MVP Car Award - The car with the lowest total PAX Time.
Its a lot of fun truely encuraging team work, especially for the guys who normally don't have a co-driver. We provide lunch to the cup runners and are starting to put together 'registration packages'.
Rookies tend to do well because they have the easiest time getting over their handicaps. Hot shoes tend to struggle because 1) they have a hard time getting past thier handicaps, but 2) they have trouble mentally switching to 3 scored runs and tend to hit cones and spin.

I used to bowl. In bowling, we recognized that it is easier for a novice bowler to bowl higher than his/her average than a bowler with a higher average. So handicaps are based on a percentage difference between averages to level the playing field. The percentage is usually 75%. Same applies with driving. If we applied the same standard, the playing field would be equalized and everyone would have a chance to win and the scoring would be much closer. As it's set up now, only novices have a chance of winning. We should take a look at the history of the last few events and come up with an appropriate percent difference to truly level the playing field so that all teams have a chance to win. Just one more job for Jason. :)

Wow. i didn't think that the handicaps were so crutial to performance. It almost sounds a bit unfair :D
anyone want a novice on their team? you'll get to drive the king of all cars, a 93 civic. get lucky, and you might even break down on course. is there an additional handicap for sketchy cars?

Or the cold tires because they waited for said oil slick to be cleaned up.
