Hey guys, the LA region as scheduled a Novice school on July 29th (Saturday) at El Toro. Also, the teaching Solo Safety Steward of the region is setting up a Safety Steward Certification School during this weekend. The SSS school might be both days and/or might have a mid week class room session.

I encurage anyone who is interested in helping grow their region take serious consideration of joining this safety steward certification school.

I've been trying to hit a safety steward school for the last 4 years, but always seem to be otherwise occupied.

Check solo2.com message boards for updates and details.

Post about the Novice School:
At this point, we are moving forward with the events.I am still trying to sort out the motorhome thing, but at least enough people have stepped forward to help. I am so very thankful!

For clarification, in response to one posting, the Novice Schools are usually 2-day affairs with chalk talks and exercises (skid pad, handling oval, slalom, "Chicago Box/Lane Change and "Mini Course" on one day and full-course w/instruction the second day.

This IS a different approach.

I am still planning on having abbreviated chalk talks (basic terminology/driving lines, traction/tires and my "racing box"/driver care discussion) and abbreviated exercises (skid pad and timed slalom); however, the exercises may be available, as needed, throughout the day. I am still working on the schedule. All students will be required to work.
Donuts and lunch will be provided Saturday (to keep the lunch break short). Cal Poly (PFM) will be cooking for us.

There will be 60 spaces for students on Satuday (estimating 40 Novice/Newbies and 20 Intermediate-level drivers). The cost will be $110 for both days. If a person can only attend Saturday, the cost will be $70 (since lunch is included). In the past, we have supplied a "text book", but due to publishing costs, we have decided not to do this. There may be some copies available for sale on Saturday (price TBD). I am also looking into getting the book scanned and loaded onto the Solo site for individuals to download/print if they wish.
The cost for the practice on Sunday will be $60. I will not know exactly how many Sunday practice spaces will be available until after all the spots reserved for the school have been filled.

All entries will be chosen by lottery if the demand exceeds the available spaces.

Please do not attempt to bring your entries to my house. I will refuse them. I live at the end of a private road, out in the "boonies" - We are difficult to find and my neighbors do not like giving directions or the increase in traffic. Please respect our privacy and use the US Postal Service or other official carrier. Did I mention that my neighbors hate to be bothered?

Regarding unfilled spots on Saturday. I doubt it. There have always been more potential students than spaces. I am happy to report that there seems to be a lot of interest. If we do fall short, then I will discuss options w/Art.

Hopefully, I have answered most of the questions. Please watch the calendar site for the event registration information and form to fill out for the school.

Thank you, again, to all of the wonderful people who are helping me to put this event on!

Post about SSS School:
In conjunction with the Driver's School on Saturday, I am planning on holding a Safety Steward Training session. If you are interested in becoming a Safety Steward, please put your name on this topic (on the solo2.com website) and I will update you on particulars. There will be a chalk talk, during the week, prior to the school.

With a ratio of 3 to 1 and these instructors you would have a hard time finding a better school anywhere at any price.

In response to an inquiry on a thread that seemed to stray a bit...In no particular order, the instructors who have agreed to support the event are:
1. Scott Mc Hugh
2. Ken Motonishi
3. Bill Schenker
4. Vincent Wong
5. Chris Teague
6. Brian Chmielewski
7. Carlos Mejia
8. Tom Berry
9. Christine Berry
10. Robert Puertas
11. Keith Lyon
12. Steve Abbot
13. Kyle Williams
14. Bill Chin
15. Chuck Waer
16. Mike Flores
17. Mike Simanyi
18. Beverlee Larson
19. Don Green
20. TBD

Thank you to all!
