Thanks Randy,

Wonder if there will be a 2007 season? Are we at crisis stage yet?

:(

BTW CSCC is losing lots to use also, new dragstrip at CSW took away the long skinny lot we used to use.

Well, the positive news is that 2007 should open back up. This seems to be the worst 6 month allocation of dates I can recall in my 16 years (ack) of doing this. Even back when the Padres took many of the dates in August/September (typically not October though).

But the Chargers/Azteks should be done with their seasons in January (or February) and then there will hopefully be more weekends. But I do think this is a sign of how more and more groups are using the stadium lots also, so there is more sharing. And this is not limited to the people like our group, I mean those that pay a lot more and rent the lots out ahead of time. They get priority.

As far as crisis stage, not sure who listens to me since it will come across as chicken little stuff... at least that is what I was once told in an e-board meeting in 2001 or 2002 I believe. But we have a situation here and this is not related, but maybe it helps to show us what things will be like once we lose Qualcomm, as soon as the end of next year.

So we get 3 or 5 days for the second half of 2006. And then whatever we get for 2007. What do we do after that if Qualcomm no longer is available? That is not that far in the future.

Even one alternate place for us to run is El Toro, and that is going away too.

It will probably not get easier in SoCal to find a large open lot, with friendly owners, that is not being used on weekends.

If we are limited to Soak City, that means we can only run in the winter season for them, and frankly, I don't see how we could ever run a championship event there and the lot is more suited for karts.

I've been listening to you Randy and your right where going to lose Qualcomm sooner then later and I really don't see us having many other places to go here in SD. This was the main reason I didn't turn my mustang into a CP car and built it for opentrack racing I would rather drive to Fontana, Buttonwillow or Willow Springs and race all day then drive to LA and get three runs. But I hope we can find something because I would still like to Autocross.

Randy, I'm always interested in your posts regarding losing the stadium. I think most of us are concerned, but the question is what can we do to help the situation? Should we scout locations ourselves? Are we basically screwed and have no options other than running LA events?

RandyC

Sorry, I did not mean to imply that nobody cared. Frankly, I think most people care. It is just frustrating because not much happens. Fixing this is difficult to get one's hands around. It is a lot easier to debate noise issues, a new trailer, course designs... than to fix this lot issue. So everyone that is involved all nod our collective heads that we have a problem... yes we do... and then we all go back to what we can control or fix. That is human nature. As a region, we spent a lot more time on the new trailer. Almost every e-board meeting, we just do not discuss new lot business, because there is not any.

And....I am not in charge, I just post a lot. :)

But I would like to see more of a serious committee put in place. And I would like to see this committee have representatives from BMW, Lotus, Corvette, PCA, Karts, Race Legal, AMCI, drifters... and anyone else with an interest at running at the Stadium..even the people that run the swapmeets. I think we would be stronger as a united force.

And then seriously and methodically attack this issue. Which means really one of two things.. and one is a long shot.

1. We develop a working relationship with someone higher up in the government/military and pull some strings so we can use a local base. Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Imperial Beach would be near the top of my lists. We sell them on the benefits for them. We make sure there ARE benefits for them.

2. We work with some group to build a lot area. This is the real long shot. But it has been hashed around before and even tried by various people. On Indian reservation land? The landfill at Miramar? In conjunction with a multiuse facility? Riding on the back of a road racing course membership deal? There are paths to consider.

Anyway... I am not the guy to lead this effort. Not now. I have some other important things going on. Maybe in a while though.

This is the obvious direction we should go in.

There must be a few people in each of these groups who can plan more than 6 months ahead & see the need for more venues.

I have only been active in autox for 2 years and don't know a single person who belongs to any of these groups.

Does anyone have a friend/contact on these other groups who can get the ball rolling?

:)

Pretty sure the region has members that are involved in all those groups already (well maybe not race legal or the drifters), so at least contacting them should not be a problem.

Bob,

You know all the board members, believe it or not....

I have offered the invitation to you before....let me do it again now. Please come to the monthly board meeting to discuss your concerns. Meetings are on the 1st non-holiday monday of the month at C2, 7:00 PM.

In addition, there is a position open on the eboard now. Clubs are to bring nominations for a replacement at the next meeting. Talk to your club rep it you want to throw your hat in the ring. We can use more folks getting involved.

See ya there??

7-2 and 7-3 still exist as well as 7-9

7-2 could use more participants!

No, not really. We lost a lot at CSW that we rarely used or liked. We have more dates that ever at CSW, we have dates at El Toro and Hollywood Park is also available again.

Post 7/2 on the CSCC site? There are some SDR club members that mostly run cscc, may not have heard about it?

All SD region club members should have heard about the practice from their club reps, regardless of where they live.

We'll give the club members a few more days to get their registrations in and then open it up to others.

Work groups 1 & 2 are pretty full, but there are still openings. Groups 3 & 4 have only 1 worker each!!

If we don't get enough folks in 3 & 4, we'll have to move some folks to the afternoon.

Im new to this Solo racing, having just gotten a 1999 Miata and am going to the Novice school in July.(if anyone wants to take a shot a me thats the time)
In 2004 and 2005 I raced Rotax karts with the SDKA at Cajon Speedway and others. We knew Cajon was getting bulldozed August 2005 and as Vice Pres in 2005 I sort of to over trying to find a new track. We approached the Drag Strip at Barona and they wanted us there, partly because we were willing to spend a bunch of money to pave their pit area so we could race. The reason we did not end up there was they flattly stated that the Reservation people would only do it on a handshake, no signed agreement. We did not want to put out a bunch of $$$$ and not have a signed agreement. Whether it was true or not they also told me that SCCA had talked to them at one time but never got back to them. I also asked the gate guard at the Imperial Beach Field who to talk to and he stated the "base liason officer". We never pursued that as the club ultimately ended up at the Q.
Just some info for all. Hope we can work out something somewheres close as that was SDKA's worry that if everyone had to drive to LA area the club would cease to exist. The majority liked to race closer to home.

Marco,

If you are member of one of the 5 local clubs, you should have received notice of the event from your club rep. They sent out the flyer as well.

On the contrary...lots of room left....well over half the spots open.

All but one person that has registered has requested a morning work group. We need folks for the afternoons groups.

Thanks, and sorry for any misunderstanding.

Thanks Randy, I like to reserve them on my calander asap. If they get cancelled - no big deal. This service is appreciated.

And no cscc conflicts with the above 3 dates. :)

What is the likelyhood of getting the tenative dates at this point in time.

They are up.

So are we doing 15 champs, or (as I suspect) one or more of the TENTATIVE dates are practices?

The tentative dates will probably include a cost for private lot clean up. If that is the case, then I think a practice is more likely. If the costs for using a lot for the day increases by 25% or more... than it would be hard to suggest a club sponsor putting on an event and potentially lose money.

Solutions are to make those practice days... or add a special fee to cover the lot clean up... or get a lot of volunteers to clean the lot from Midnight until the next morning.

We will know more at the next e-board meeting next Monday.
