Is there another way to send money? Like cash? Or pay online?
RandyC
11-25-2005, 09:04 AM
No. You can send a check or postal money order. Sorry for the hassle relative to online, but we are not set up for that.
Is the Novice School open to complete beginners? Is an SDR # required?
Thanks!

Open to complete beginners: Yes. In fact, until December 5th, novices have priority entry. After the 5th, it's open to non-novices.
Non-novices....submit an entry form now, and I'll put your name on the standy list. After the 5th, I'll move the standby folks to the main list.
Solo-II number required: Yes. You can buy one at the coming event (12/3), or you can buy one on school day.
Thanks.

I've been doing the autocross for about 4 years now, but I still think I need this. I don't think I will be able to make the classroom session, though. Will there be a lot of instruction at the track day, or will it be more like a ride-along where they point out places you can improve? Seems like a good idea to me, I'm just wondering what else to expect. Maybe a course walk with an instructor "reading" the cones for you? Thanks.

There will be instruction on both days. If you can't make the Saturday session, don't worry too much. You'll be fine. The Sunday session will have lots of seat time with instructors.

I'll be sending in my entry form today with the check. How much will the Solo-II number cost?
mcontour
11-28-2005, 02:15 PM
If you are an SCCA member, it is $10. If not, then the card is $15. You can also tack on the $10 to renew the number for 2006.
Thanks.
Michael
So, if we don't already have an SDR #, we can get one for $15 that is good for the rest of 2005 only (1 month)?

Clay,
You got it!! That's what the rule book says.
You have an option to buy a single day number for $10, but that will cost you more if you intend to run any events in 2006.
Option 1: Buy 2005 card for $15 and then renew for 2006 for $10.
Total payout = $25
Option 2: Buy singel day card for $10. Buy 2006 card in 2006 for $30.
Total payout = $40.

I realize that you already stated it wouldn't be a requirement to go to the Saturday class at C2. But I was wondering if it could be disclosed what will be gone over on that Saturday session. I would really love to go to both days, but a buddy is getting married that same day (how convenient).
Is it going to be mainly safety and car prep, or other things as well?

Let me see if I can get the guru of novice instruction to comment here on what the Saturday session will include.
Stay tuned.

That'd be great. Like I said, I'd really like to go to both days, but I fear the repercussions of missing my friend's wedding would never cease. I can hear his fiancee/wife going off about that for years. :p

Michael is too kind!
Saturday will cover 1) the critical driving concepts, 2) getting the most from a coursewalk, 3) some basic car prep, and 4) training on work assignments.
For those that can't make it, I'll have the handouts available Sunday.

3) some basic car prep
Does that mean hands on driveline installation work in a first gen RX-7? ;) :p

Fabulous idea! Sixty pairs of hands have to be faster than one, right?
One thing we will cover is the pitfalls of using excessive lighter fluid when preparing manifold chicken.

I referred a couple of novices to the T&S guys in the trailer at the scnax event to try & get info about getting into the novice school. A guy with a white C6 Vert who was watching yesterday (it's 6 speed & z51) and the guy with the Pantera race car who had troubles out on the course - he was having mechanical problems - float settings in the carb & battery charging/dying stuff. It's a Chevy powered Pantera - used to be a Chevy Big Block :) They both seemed nice & very interested in solo2.

Hey Michael,
My Solo-II card number is incorrect. It should be 612 instead of 512. Just missing another hundred. I'm number 52 on the list by the way. Thanks.

Just got an email about helmets and numbers. Helmet is not an issue, but I was wondering about numbers. We are still able to get a number on either Saturday or Sunday, correct? Also, what is the best way to get the numbers on both sides of the car if magnets aren't available? Can that window grease marker stuff be used?

I've heard about colored tape or shoe polish, but there's another way. At each event I've been to, they have this bin with numbers printed on paper, some tape, and some scissors. All you have to do is drop $1 in.
I'll add to this that it's a pain in the butt and by my 2nd event here I managed to get my hands on some magnetic numbers. Maybe a helmet would be good...

Ah, so are the numbers that are available just black print on say a 8.5x11 sheet of paper and you just tape them to the glass?
I thought I had seen some with painters tape on the body as well.

Just try to make the numbers at least 8 inches tall. I would tape them to the door, rather than the glass. You can also use painters tape or another low-tack tape to mark numbers on the door. Either way, you should be covered.
Looking forward to the seat time... :D

If you're making your own numbers, also be sure they're high contrast to the background color.
Examples:
Black numbers on white paper: good.
Blue painters tape on a black car: bad.
Not sure if what you're using to make numbers with is high contrast? Put them on the car, park in the shade, stand at least 100 ft from the car, in bright sunlight. Can you read the numbers easily?

For all of you who have volunteered or been volunteered to be instructors, I'm trying to contact all of you to make sure you're still able to help.
Just in case I have a hard time reaching anyone, we'd like you there Sunday by 8. You're also welcome to the classroom session, 3-5 pm Saturday at C2 Motorsports, if you'd like to attend.
Feel free to PM me with any questions, or if you want to save me a phone call:D
