Just a heads up, it looks like the available dates are pretty slim. Your board is working to see what can happen and if there are alternative locations to run at.

My point is, if you are wondering about taking advantage of the practice dates available to run at, do it! There may be a lot fewer practice dates the rest of the year (after July).

And don't be scared of the short drive up I-15 to Fontana to run with Cal Club up north. If you have not run with LA, they are a good group to run with. It is about one hour and 10-20 minutes for me to drive from Qualcomm to Fontana.

In the summer bring shade & lots of icy drinks.

In the winter bring a boat. Lot 12 has flooded in the past.

Spring & fall = delightful. Takes me about 1:15 from Carlsbad. 96 miles. 15 heavily patrolled by the man. Use radar detector & check your 6 frequently.

Speaking of which, someone "borrowed" my Valentine 1 from my pile of stuff at Qualcomm at the last west lot event.

ARGH

That sucks Randy, sorry to hear it. I have been "harping" for some time about having some security at both sdr & cscc events to control "undesirables" and curb theft. Nobody who has any authority/responsibility to take action cares at either region.

I asked my club rep at cscc to bring it up after some rowdies were acting up at an event & running on course & cursing out course workers, guess what happened. oh, you're right, nothing.

I don't know what it'll take, anyway sorry again to hear it. I use V1 also, great detector.

Nobody who has any authority/responsibility to take action cares at either region.Watch your over generalization. You're talking about a lot of people who work very hard for no money.

I know Jay, I work too. But the petty theft continues.

Digital cameras stolen at the west lot, Randy's V1 (@ about $500.) how many other things that never got reported?

What specific action has been taken?

Talking about it at eboard meetings does not count.

Sorry if I'm sounding alarmist. Theft just pisses me off.

What specific action has been taken? What specific action can be taken? I listened to your ideas in the past and I think they would be ineffective. The best thing we can do is have gate turn away 'undesirables' and have people watch for non-wrist banded people, but we pretty much already do that. Someone walking around with a security jacket will simply make a thief look around for 2seconds before doing his deed. To make this effective you'd have to have enough people in security jackets that no one is working course any more.

Just because your ideas don't pass doesn't mean nobody cares.

Who's at fault when a theft occurs? #1 obviously the guy who steels, but #2 is the guy who owns the stuff. More times than not thief occurs on items we left out in the open, I'm very guilty of this too.

So, if you want to be safer, take care in storing and placing your stuff. Don't bring expensive goodies when you don't need them. When you paddock with buddies you have a look out for each other system. This should be obvious to everyone, even though we don't all do it.

Well, even if my ideas are lame, at least I have some. How do other clubs (BMW, Porsche) handle security? Anyone know?

I agree on this, I am pretty darn careful to have stuff covered up, but the fact of the matter is you HAVE TO leave valuable tools, cameras, rims etc laying on the ground unguarded when you run, don't you ? (Unless you own a closed trailer.)

Done all this and it's (theft) still a problem. Maybe we are a bit too "Open to the public". Maybe if we charged a visitor fee (like $5.00 or so) to watch it would keep the low life's out.

Reply within the quotes above.

So if I'm all wet & my ideas suck and there ARE others (club reps, board members) who do "care", my question still remains what ideas/solutions have been suggested? I just think people figure "not that big a problem" until it happens to them.

In any event this thread is not producing any solutions, I need to go out & work on the car. Take my frustrations out using a loud air tool, that'll make me feel better. I lived/worked in Saudi Arabia for a few years and the method they used in that country to deal with a thief was very effective. All the local residents were called to the public square to witness the solution. The 3rd time he was caught stealing the thief has his hand chopped off. They still deal with the problem that way today (and trust me theft is a VERY, VERY small problem in that country)

I'm done on this subject, no need to respond & no offense meant to my buddy Jay (who does MORE than his share for the benefit of our sport & our clubs) or anyone else. Happy fathers day to all the Dads!

I am willing to take on some responsibility, but to suggest that leaving stuff out is "obvious" seems a little... argh never mind.

My V1 was not out in the open.
