With the 8 week championship gap, do you expect to suffer from racing withdrawls? I would, and here's the answer:

SCNAX LA (note, LA, don't bug the SCNAX SD guys about this) is hosting a CSCC practice on the El Toro lot (~80miles north of QualCom). We're expecting a huge course on grippy asphault.

Registration info is up in the LA calendar (http://www.solo2.com/eventpage.asp?eid={5233AA36-577A-4AAB-9CC6-C6F6B68E8F35}). Here are some of the pertinent details:

$60/entry, discounted rates for SCNAX workers.

80 spots available. Expect 12 runs per entry.

Make checks payable to SoCal Solo2 and send to:
Jayson Woodruff
136 Clearbrook
Irvine, Ca 92614

Various priorities are in effect, but no one is excluded from applying.

Sorry, but until further notice minors are excluded from running on the El Toro lot. This might change so contact Jayson Woodruff to stay updated.

I've never run an El Toro event before. How large a track layout do they use? Top speed? Times? Just wondering what I'm in for...

Big, dual strip runway. Should be a very long course. Its still an SCCA autoX, so speeds aren't going to vary much.

I wouldn't think too long, LA practices fill up fast (I've had one fill in one mail day). But considering this one is not coupled with a championship, it will probably take a while longer.

I'll be there, I'm sort from San Diego (blue Neon, Orange Dakota).

If you get a chance to run at El Toro, you should go. Nice venue. A little "sandy" surface so if you get off line, you can spin. Not much to hit though, pretty wide open.

If I was not already committed to something else, I would go.

I already entered, though it's very vague what group I'll end up in. Reason I asked here, was to get an idea of what kind of top speed to expect. How long are the tracks. I know it's an old military airbase, so they could have a 2-mile road course I suppose. That would be sweet, finally getting the mid-engine Mini up to speed.

I realize what I'm asking depends a lot on the car in question, but I'll be happy with knowing how long the courses typically are.

Like I said, its still an SCCA autoX, so the speeds won't be much different than any autoX you've done. If you want to go faster, you'll have to start looking to the track days.

I've posted a current entry list on the LA region forums (http://www.solo2.com/generalboard.asp?cid={15EEB3FE-1AF6-4F39-959B-9A775F6BE1A1}), under the "June 25th, El Toro Current Entry List" thread.

I've still got plenty of spots left for the El Toro practice. Should be a fantastic time with mild weather.

I hope it's cooler than what we had at the FSAE event in Fontana last Friday... 103 deg! Sheez! I got cooked. I had a great time and will volunteer next year, but I sure could do without that heat!
