Hi,

I'm looking at various options of cars for sale, and am trying to determine what class the following would run under:

'72 Datsun 240Z with 280Z engine on twin webbers (instead of stock SU's). 4 speed box replaced by Datsun 280Z 5 speed. It has a mild high lift cam. Everything else appears to be stock, except for electronic ignition.

From reading the rules, I'm guessing Street Modified - but not sure. What are the typical types of car this one would normally run against? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think you might qualify for BSP. There's an update/back date allowance in Street Prepared that lets you swap parts relitivly freely (except for engine internals) between cars "on a single line". And the line reads "240Z & 260Z & 280Z".

TBs and intake manifold are free, ignition is free. Tranny is swapable by the above.

But now I just noticed the cam. Any change in cam geometry sends you to SM2 (2=2seaters, SM is for 4seaters).

You can run SM2 or the local SU for now, then when you want to be more serioius, I'd suggest swapping the cam back out and running BSP.

SM2 top dogs are RX7TT, vettes and probably a well built Z. BSP top dogs are C4 vettes, M3s, and S2000s. Hybrid Zs used to dominate BSP, and can still be very competitive, I just think people got bored with them.
