A new RallyX has been scheduled at Glen Helen, about 10miles north of Fontana. Not as convenient as Del Mar, but not nearly as far as Jean, Thunder Hill or Blythe.
California Rally Cross rules and points. NASA sanctioned.
Probably a good place for rookies since its not too rutted and no hard objects to hit.
I've talked with the organizers and this looks like it will be an efficiently ran event. I encourage everyone interested to enter. The more people, the more fun we have. I'll be going in my old MR2.

Hi Jay,
Would you consider having a co-driver at the RallyX?!?

Nik's got dibs since he let me drive his back in January. He showed some interest in coming, pending school work. If he can't make it, the seat is all your's.
Hopefully I'll have the new shocks, wheels and tires on by then.
BTW, when I said "old MR2", I meant a MkI.

Thanks for getting that posted for us Jay.
A reminder, pre-entries get money off.

5 Run Groups:
1. The event will run the classes as designated by the CRS rulebook. Trucks will run at the promoters' discretion and be placed with the appropriate class.
any way to get pre-approval so i don't waste my time?

The promoters e-mails can be found in the links I posted at the begining.
Ever get those shocks installed?

heh, it's been a while since del mar but they've been installed and re-valved :D if it's not too rutted, why not take out the Dakota?

Brian - Just E-mailed you back...
We're going to add a line to the supps about trucks getting pre-approval.
Past events have been very liberal with allowing those (there are several pics from Del Mar, the smoothest RallyX course we have, of trucks on two wheels) and we need to insure that our insurance costs will remain low enough to continue to have these events. It's also better for that aspect if we run the trucks in a "car" class.

I remember seeing that from the sound station. I also saw that the driver went and put balast (read: passengers) back in the vehicle.

Kind of, except it was the lifted Silverado with the full 4 doors.
BTW (random), you somehow managed to randomly pick a picture with my car and my dad's car in the background.

I like how the winner of the truck class was driving a 10+ year old truck with one of those bolt-in tool boxes in the back despite all of these new or heavily modified competitors.

Nomenclature correction. Truck driver's don't use ballast, we use payload.:)

Even if it's human and inside the cab? I thought payload was only for things in the bed in the back.

sweet, time to sign up.
anyone else from SD going up?
just for the sake of speculation....
looks like Gravel Crew might have a new playground up in Irvine:
http://www.gcrallyx.com/pg_press_2006_04_21.htm
GravelCrew and GCrallyX are excited for what will obviously make for the largest spectator event setting for any rallycross event ever! Additional major news for fans of rally, GCrallyX has recently secured the exclusive rally use rights for 80-acres of land for upcoming GCrallyX events within the ultra-prime and now ultra-popular Orange County! Yes, rallying – GravelCrew style – deep inside the boundaries of Irvine, California!

Less than two weeks until pre-registration ends! The link can be found on this page and you do not pay until you arrive at the event: http://www.socalrallyx.com/glenhelen/suppregs.php
Getting those entries in now will help the event run smoothly as we'll have pre-printed tech cards and so on.
Of course, you're still welcome to come out the day of the event and sign up then as well.

what kind of cars will be in the Rally class? are these cars running dedicated rally tires or is it something else that makes them a rally class car, ie full cage, suspension work, etc.
woodrufj

They can, but it doesn't mean they will.
Rules are on the California Rally Series page

Brian - Rally class is defined entirely by tires. Cars will range from stock with a set of rally or other type of all-terrain tires, to stage-rally prepared cars.
A good example of what type of cars you’ll be running with is to look at the results from Ridgecrest a few months ago where they also do not offer a separate truck class: http://www.californiarallyseries.com/results06/Ridgecrest%20RX%202006%20Results.htm As you can see by the eclectic mix in R2 there, type of car has very little effect compared to driver on the outcome.

will you be requiring mudflaps for trucks?

Nope - not required on any car.

i'm considering making some camera mounts off my bumper and bedcage. i was wondering if there's some kind of restriction as to how far out (if any) tubes or poles can extend from the vehicle.

No written rules - anything sticking off the car will up to our discretion when we see it should we feel something could be unsafe (i.e. a pole that could catch the starter, etc.).

Lancaster Subaru will sponsoring the SS4 class with certificates good until 11/20/06 for/toward Parts/Accessories/Service to the tune of $200 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for third.
We have some DVD's for the other classes and the class with the most pre-entries will be racing for a 2005 WRC yearbook direct from Europe.
Two days to save $5 (or $10 if you're a CRS member) by pre-entering!

Had some fun at the rallyx today, but not quite as much as last time at Del Mar. A lot of the course was extremely tight, which made it almost painful to drive (especially in a Ford Ranger). I again ignored the whole cumulative scoring concept with a DNF and plenty of cones. We seemed to have some organizational issues with registration and run-order and didn't get the first car out 'til 11:30ish... thankfully we finished up runs by 5:30 though. Also it would've been nice to see our afternoon times posted.
Plenty of SoCal autoxers got awards. These are the ones I remember hearing:
SS2 - 3rd: Jay W, 2nd: Mako K, 1st: Roman K
RM2 - 3rd: Jason U, 2nd: Ken M, 1st: George D... somewhere near the bottom : Jason M :o

Thanks to everyone that came out - we learned a lot and next time will be much more efficient and so on - I'll even make the course faster but I wanted to error on the side of slower being safer with this being the first time we directly put on a RallyX.
