Does anyone have a mechanic that is competent, honest, and easy to deal with? My Prius is sick and needs a good mechanic-type doctor!!! I've never had a problem with it and I'd like to avoid taking it to the dealership if possible. If anyone knows of a good mechanic that might have a clue about hybrids I'd really appreciate a referral!!!

Doesn't have to be a hybrid specialist per se I don't think, as that doesn't seem to be the problem. No CEL to speak of. Maybe an expert on CVTs might be good though. We used to have a guy we liked nearby but he's since moved.

Before I got the Miata and started going to Larry and Rocky's place I would go to Sean at Advantec Auto on Adams Ave.

They've always been honest and fairly priced. My friend has a 1st Gen Prius too and has brought it to him a couple of times and she would also give him a strong recommendation.

Honda, Mazda, Acura specialists.

I originally said it was in Carlsbad, it is in San Marcos.

Jeff, thanks for the recommendation. I went to advantec and Gilbert there was really nice. Alas, as I suspected, it wasn't just a simple wheel bearing problem, but rather the transmission itself, and he said they couldn't help me and would need to either take it to a Prius specializing shop or Toyota. Ended up choosing the latter. Getting ready to bend over or maybe I can convince Rae a two-seater CRZ is somehow practical next to our roadster haha.

I'm glad you had a good visit with them, it's a shame they couldn't help out.

You had a typo there. It's called the BRZ, you were just one letter off. Oh, and it's a 2+2. ;)

I second this motion with emphatic enthusiasm.

Haha, you guys don't know Rae. If a non-hybrid was in the cards...I'd be looking for much more than a CRZ!
