hi guys and girls,
i was originally getting ready to drift but then it cost too much.. So until i save enough money, i decided to AutoX. I have couple of questions for you guys..
1) What class would my car be in? 05 350z mods: stance coilover, aftermarket adjustable front and rear camber arms, solid compression arm bushing, HR y-pipe (y pipe for 07 model), SS brake and clutch lines, JWT intake, plenum spacer, and PS cooler. I might get a single exhaust in a few month. Please tell me what those letters to tell classes stand for.
2) Which club among SCAT, SDAD, SCNAX, DCCSD, and TARTis most active, smooth track, fun, and challenging?
3) I know this is SD club but do any of you know where practices and events are held for LA club?
Thanks. i'm looking forward to be part of scca

Welcome,

I think that your mods will put you into one of the street touring (ST) classes, but the plenum spacer might bump you to Street Prepared (SP). Others will chime in I'm sure.

As far as clubs, there is no urgent need to join one right away, so most people will recommend that you go to events put on by all of the clubs and get a feel for how each one works, what their events are like and what their people are like too. The people are the most important part (obviously) of a club, since being in a club means that you will be working with them and also socializing with them. Make an informed decision, rather than choosing a club which tries the hardest to recruit new members.

The LA Region is called CalClub. Here is their main page;

http://www.solo2.com/

They run about half their events in Fontana (on the raceways parking lots) and around half at El Toro (on the old marine base).

What Ian said about a local group. Wait, talk around, and then make a choice after attending at least one event hosted by each. There is no hurry. We still let you run.

BTW, as each group hosts events, they design the course for that day. The courses change, and because of that no group has better or worse courses. Some are better than others, and each group has had their share of each. It really should not be a determining factor on which club to join. That should be determined by how you get along with the members, and who drives similar cars.

I'm also new to all this and I was hoping to get into the next practice session at Qualcomm however its all filled up.

How early is the entry window opened up?
My car is a stock 99 eclipse that is dog slow i'd imagine i'd be in a stock class, however I'm not sure which of the clubs that falls into? Regardless, my real question is, Can I show up and race in any of the practice sessions?

If so I'd like to sign up for the March date.

Thanks.

Is there a big difference between ST and SP as to what kind of cars are there?
I wouldn't want to be running with a Corvette Z06  it all depends on driving skill but still, horsepower and handling matter in someway haha
What is the average cost of entry fee and autoxing fee? Do they have instructors cause it's my first time lol.
How many runs do you get every event or practices?
Thankz

KC, It's probably too late for the practice on the 29th. You can always walk up and try to get in that way, but don't get your hopes up. But the least you can get is a couple rides as a passenger.

The March practice date is going to fill FAST. you should sign up for email notification of flyers. http://www.sdr-scca.com/mail/?p=subscribe

Practices for the foreseeable future should be pre-entered by mail to be sure to reserve a spot. Even veterans are going to have trouble if they don't get their entry in within a couple days of the flyer being posted.

For right now it would be MUCH easier to just enter a Champ. It's true you don't get as many runs per dollar, but it's also true that Champs are most peoples first autocross experience. My first was a Champ.

And JDM, I have a feeling if people started looking at your car, it would be SP (Street Prepared), not ST (Street Touring).

We have room for some walk-ups at tomorrow's CalClub practice.

I didnt check the board in time. Anyways, I ended up going to lowes and passing by we (Wife and I) stopped to watch. I couldnt believe how many porsche's there were. loads of 944s. I already feel bad for my poor car. Regardless, I'll shoot for March as I'll be out of town for the next champ.

Was it a Porsche event you guys were looking at? There was no SCCA at QualCom today.

which class can i run in that allows only street tires? i have stance coilover, aftermarket adjustable front and rear camber arms, solid compression arm bushing, HR y-pipe (y pipe for 07 model), SS brake and clutch lines, JWT intake, plenum spacer, and PS cooler. mods.
Are there any classes that i can run lower than STR class?

ST classes are the only street tire classes (Except for the SK classes which are the stock classes with street tires, you are definitely not eligible with current mods)

Well, he can run street tires, it is just that he will be at a disadvantage compared to all the others at that mod level that will be running race tires

But you are obviously correct - that is too many serious mods to qualify for an ST or SK street tire class.

Not sure, I just assumed it was scca.

Wasn't us Korona. Our first event is on the 29th. We also don't have all that many porsches that run, maybe 2 at any particular event.

Don't worry about class. It's the least of all the issues.

I don't know what a plenum spacer. Adjustable control arms are legal for the class but must attach the same way as stock and only one per corner allowed. I don't know about the power steering cooler. If all your mods are legal for STR, that would be the 'lowest' class you could run based on PAX difficulty. That said, Warren is correct. Classing is the least of your worries. Come out, run STR, and go from there.

solid compression arm bushing
I guess when I read this I assumed you meant metal, but I suppose they might be some sort of "solid" plastic. If metal, they are not legal - if some sort of plastic (delrin, etc.) they are OK.

What are they?
