This is what one of our senior editors forwarded me today. Flat-proof, spike strip-proof, water-proof, air-proof. ha ha

But when will the "twheel" come out? I've heard them talk about this for a couple years.
Well, how much will it cost too.

What publication do you work for? If I may ask.

I hope sidewalls of some type end up on the final production tires. Can you immagine the damage caused by catching a rock or other debri in the side of the tire, and then flinging it loose later. Or bugs, spiders, ect that might decide to make there home in there while the car is parked?
It is kinda cool to see through them though.

Anybody know how heavy they are compared to conventional tires?

Supposed to be lighter. But prototype dreams rarely materialize in production.

I would imagine a production version would have a sidewall. The prototype is probably like that to showcase the technology.

Imagine the damage you'd do to your tire if you spun out on gravel or something.
One nice thing on sidewalls for this is they don't have to be that strong and heavy. Even if they put a relatively thin sidewall, it should still out perform and be lighter than the current models.

And since the sidewall is no longer part of the structural integrity, it could come in designer colors! *blech* A transparent material might be cool, though.

What if the wheel sidewalls matched your wheels or paint job?

Ha ha ha. that's true. I don't check in as much as i used to. My fiance is a school teacher and she uses the computer more than i do now.
I work for Mitchell Intl. by the way. I sit where Steve Coe used to!
