In the 2006 GP2 series with 3 races to go Lewis Hamilton had a large 26 point series lead over the second place contender Nelson Angelo Piquet. The 3rd to last race was in Hungary and Piquet won both races and scored bonus points for the fastest race laps in each race whereas Hamilton spun in qualifying and started the feature race from back of the grid ending up not scoring any points. In the sprint race on Sunday, he placed 2nd. By the end of the weekend, his series lead had been cut in half.

This sets the stage for the 2nd to last race in Hungary. In the feature race Piguet places 1st and Hamilton manages 2nd place. In Sunday's sprint race Hamilton spins on lap 2 sending him waaaay back in the pack. For an amazing comeback, check out

The link is to a Shell commercial shown in Europe. Ostensibly they're selling gasoline, but the Ferraris used in the video steal the show.

Ferrari pulled several of their race-cars from various ages out of storage, flew them around the world, and filmed them running through the streets of Rome , Rio , New York , Hong Kong and Monaco . No CGI - these are the original cars on the original streets.

The best part is the sound - from the basso-profundo notes of the early, front-engine era, each scene cuts to a later and later generation, ending with the banshee-wail of a modern F1 car. The sounds alone bring a tear to the eye. Even if you're not a gearhead, this video will stir the soul...

There's just something about 3L's and 14,000 RPM that's music to your ears!!!

I instructed at the Maximum Grip track day event on 6/27/10 at Willow Springs and toward the end of the day, I gave some rides after most of the people had left. This video is with Aram's (the organizer) girlfriend, Amalya, riding along. It was a very hot day and I had to take two cool-off laps after every two hot laps but the car was terrific, as usual.

Apologies if this video has flaws. I haven't learned how to edit, etc. yet. Not perfect laps... the second one is better.... but for those who are unfamiliar with this stuff, you can get some idea of how much fun it is.

The stock-Corvette hot laps end at about 3:55 of the 8:49 video. Big Willow hasn't changed much since July, 1969, when Bill Swan and I ran the 3-hour enduro in my MGB (seventh overall out of about 27 entries, second in class), nor since 1971 when I had the Solo I B-sedan lap record in my Vega Kammback (you could look it up).

McDonnell Douglas test pilot demonstrating (not very well) a 180 degree autorotation landing in the MD 600N. This 600 was to become one of the new US Border Patrol choppers. I'm guessing a newer one was on order shortly after.

Is that the B.A.T. AlFa IV or V? More like VII or IX. I actually put my hands on one of them when it was on Ernie McAfee's Ferrari lot, Sunset Boulevard, in that era. We used to spend Friday nights standing outside Ernie's garage, chatting with him as he prepared one or another Ferrari for the next day's race at Santa Barbara, Palm Springs, or *Torrey Pines.
