View Full Version : Time for me to get a number...

I talked with Warren this weekend about how to get official, and with the varying clubs here, its seems that I really don't know who to pick so I can get a number and get my foot in the door so to speak.
I am assuming that club membership is a requirement to get the local license and number, what club would be ideal for a guy with a slow old car?

club membership is just necessary to get points, IIRC. don't need to worry about licenses.

You do NOT 'need' to be in a club to run our events, or to buy a number. Many people have run for years in our region and not joined a club. It is usually suggested you go to at least one event hosted by each club, pick the one that suits your personality (not necessarily your car) and join it. Perhaps even more than one event per club.
The only REAL reason to be in a club is that you MUST be in a club to get a year end trophy. You also MUST compete in two thirds of champ events in the same class.
The two thirds requirement is actually the harder hurdle.
People like to say 'all you need to do to get year end points is to be in a club'. But not all clubs have the same requirements for membership. Some charge dues, some require you work their events. Some are large, some choose to remain small.
Worry later about a club. Come and buy a Solo Card (it is NOT a 'points' card) and get used to the routine of autocross.
If you choose to switch clubs in the middle of the year, your accumulated points come with you.

Go to any event and buy one. They are sold at every event. They are not sold off site.

Is there a list on line so I can see what availible and possibly "reserve" it?
Bob- I was reading up on posts about TART, seemed the way to go, pretty laid back and non-specific as to type/model/series.

Us captains can get particular about our yacht's descriptions. ;)

Just come out and have some fun! I came out for about 3 years before joining a club, no rush....:D Your car really sounds great, just keep bringing it out, love the sound of healthy V8's!

Sorry dude.
I googled and they were listed as Caprice/Impala. I wanted to say Impala as that's what I called them back in my (vintage) day.

Warren will have the list of numbers available at registration. Come with a few choices in mind (realize most two digit combinations are taken) and you can ask if numbers on your wish list are available.
