I have recently gotten more excited about autocross, and am excited to attend an event. Unfortunately, I'm so new to the whole thing I'm not exactly sure where to start. I've read the FAQ's and stuff on the solo2 and SCCA sites, and they're all really helpful. Unfortunately, I need more basic info than that.

I'm already a member of SCCA, but I don't know which local club to join, and which events I'd be able to attend. I'm driving a stock 2010 Mazdaspeed3. I see that there's a SCNAX event at Qualcomm on 30 January--is my car allowed, at least for practice?

Any tips would be welcome--I'm excited to get more involved with autocross in San Diego.

Welcome!

The Jan 30th practice is the best way for you to get started. The club that is hosting that event is very friendly and helpful to first timers. What you need to do is print and fill out the entry form then mail it in with a check ASAP, the practice has limited space and it will fill up very fast.

Any car that passes tech inspection is allowed at the practice.

As far as choosing a club, there is no rush. Generally it is a good idea to attend events hosted by all 5 clubs before joining one, just to get a feel for how each club operates, and where you will fit in.

See you there! :shift:

Thanks for the info, guys. I'm on the waiting list for the 30 Jan event, but I'll be on the lookout for the next one in February. I'll check out C2 Motorsports and make sure I'm in good shape regardless.
