EDIT: I bought the tires at Vulcanire.com for $534 shipped. Installed @ BEAR'S TIRES for $60. Next time I will order my tires directly from Bear's for even cheaper (he qouted my $135/tire installed). I highly recomend going there for any tire. Great service and great prices.

I got mine (225/45R/17) from vulcan tires for 535.00 shipped. Then I paid a local (Oceanside) tire place 50 bucks to mount them.

There's a local place called Bear Tire. I think this is the phone #: (858) 795-0500 (google maps is throwing a fit).

I have bought three sets of these tires from Discount Tire. I am very happy with their customer service, prices, and the tires are the bomb!

I bought mine not too long ago from www.edgeracing.com . Seems they've got the best prices I've seen around although they are non-local. For 205/50-15 I paid $368 shipped.

Looks like they've got your size for $112 per tire with a generic SD shipping quote of $71.40. So you'd be at about $129.85 per tire.

Discount sells that tire for $111.88 and there is no shipping. ;)

But there's tax. 205/50-15 $356 at my doorstep. 376 mounted and balanced.

Save $100. :)

The second set of prices that I indicated was for the 225/45-17s.

Discount does sell the 205/50-15 for 111.88, but the price of that tire through edgeracing is $78 for the tire, plus $16 shipping. So the price for the tire shipped through edgeracing is still $17.68 less than Discount's base price and $26.45 less than Discount's base price plus tax per tire. :)

And for the 17s that the original poster was inquiring about:

Evan's (price plus tax) = $754.25
Discount Tire (price plus tax) = $732.18
Vulcan = $535 shipped (per Warren)
EdgeRacing = $519.40 shipped

I have had some luck with reduced/free mount/balance at Discount. If you go thru a lot of tires & get to know the manager ....

Figure this possibility into your cost.
YMMV

These prices are the best I've found. The tires are $112ea from both places and shipping is around the same, depending on which wherehouse your tires are coming from.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Yes, you are "supposed" to, but not until the end of the year. :p

Actually you have until April 15th of the following year.;)

In S.D. I always got my Falcons at TWS, they always beat Discounts price. I then took them to Costco (no longer a choice). Although the "shipped" prices above don't include mounting, the store prices probaly do, locally Americas Tire (Discount elseware) will mount & ballance carry ins for $10.00 per tire.

Anyone ever go to Walmart to m&b tires? A friend told me they charge like $3 per tire... Don't know if that's accurate, or whether they are ok to go to......since it is Walmart. Dunno

Anyone ever try Tire Rack? How do their prices compare? I know their shipping is always good.

Last time I checked, they don't list Falken tires. Whenever I am researching prices, I end up going to Discout Tire's site (but I'm only looking).

Falkens aren't availble through Tire Rack. Neither are Toyos.

So I bought the tires from Vulcantire.com.
They were $112 each. Shipping from the local wherehouse (Utah) was ~$54, but they were out so I had them shipped from PA for ~$81 (sorry, don't remeberthe exact shipping costs). They should be here Friday, which is exactly 6 days from when I ordered them.

My total was $534 for four(4) Falken RT615 size 225/45-17.

Where is a good place to mount and balance the tires?
Thinking of some Falken for my beater '99 Accord.
Vulcan has them for $250 shipped.
I can get it locally, mounted/balanced for $350 OTD at Evan's. It comes with lifetime balancing as well.

Preston's Tire & Wheel in La Mesa. Make sure you mention that they're "race" tires and bring the wheels in loose (not mounted on a vehicle).

Bear's Used Tires in Mira Mesa.

I've heard some of the local Discount Tire outfits are racer friendly, but I haven't been to any of them.

You guys know that DiscountTireDirect.com sells theirs with NO shipping and No tax into California.....you just need to pay your "out of state use tax" when you file your taxes. Got my Hankooks veeery inexpensively.

Do my mounting/balancing exclusively at Bear's Tires in Miramar. Good gys, fair prices, racer priority when its busy.

That's where I got my latest set of tires. I plan on going there next week to get a rotation and balancing. As you said, good guys, fast service (all three of them were working to swap my 4 tires; took 15 minutes), and good prices.

Sounds good. I will probably go to Bear's then. Hopefully I can make my current tires last through the April 1 practice!

I don't know if it'd make a difference, but mention you heard about them from the autox people. He's sponsoring one of the other drivers and there might be a discount related to the referal (or for the autox-tire-shreaders).

I don't like Preston's. Here's why. A couple years ago I ran over something on the freeway with my 18's and bent my rim. Took it to them to get the rim repaired and distinctly remembered that I had a flawless rim. I take very good care of my wheels and at this point my car was only a few months old. When I come to pick it up, there is a 3 inch gash along one of the spokes. Talked to the management and they were reluctant to do anything. They insisted that they were not at fault. They need to work on their customer service, because I will never go there again and will try to keep as many people away from them as well.

As a WA resident, I don't pay CA income tax. :)

So to re-energize this thread, anyone find a good deal in SD on tires? Going to get some RT-615's before the next event so my car isn't sideways all the time. :)

I've got access to mounting/balancing equipment at any of the local base auto hobby shops.

Had my tires installed for $15ea. at Bear's Tires. The service was great. They got right to work on my car and had 3-4 guys helping at one point.

From the owner I learned I could've bought these from him for $135 installed. He can order any tires shipped overnight, and he plans on stocking the RT-615s in all the sizes.

Thanks a lot for the referal. I will be doing all my tire shopping at Bear's.
