I was wondering what ppl thought about them. I can get a set of them for 40 dollars cheaper a tire than the Kumho V710. mainly how is grip and wear?

Newer kid on the block. Not many people have even tried them. It makes me leary that they revised their R-compound in less than a year (from tech R to tech RA).

The 710s will last a very long time before cord, but their peak performance is gone at about 50-75 runs (less than half way to cord).

$40/tire? That's pretty significant. Check around the clearance tires, any of them would make a good entry level race tire.

I tooka chance on a set of RAs on my Miata and like them but I don't have anything to compare them to.

Data logger says they pull a little over 1g with some regularity at Qualcom. Turn in is nice. They are a little heavier than the Khumos.

Time will tell...

the reason for the huge price difference is they are on "close out" on tire rack, since the RA came out and when u said check out clearance tires...where?

that was 40 less a tire not 40 per tire....they are 99 a tire on Tire Rack. paying for heat cycling is a very good idea is it not?

$40 a tire and $40 per tire is the same thing. :D

It's hard to get tires up to a temperature needed for heat cycling by just driving on them, so yes, Avon recommends heat cycling the tire it's worth paying for it.

OTOH, the 710 doesn't need to be heat cycled.

Either take them on a 15minute drive, or three autoX runs without spinning then let them recover overnight (not mounted and on the ground)

I compiled the below Tire Rack clearance list for the Neon guys last month. I advertised them as beginner R-comps. What size are you looking for?
Avon Tech R
205/55ZR14 $99
205/50ZR15 $119
225/50ZR16 $118
The replacement Tech R-As are about $50/tire in these sizes.

Yokohama Advan A032R (Soft or Hard Compound)
205/50VR15 $128

For Comparison
VictorRacers/V710/Hoosiers
205/55/14 $119/$129/$170
205/50/15 $136/$148/$182
225/50/16 $156/$171/$184

I myself have considered the Avon's , I run the M550's (street tires) on my Jetta, and love them. Spoke to one of the HS drivers at the Pro Solo who was using Avon Ra's (ran the SD Tour also). On his FWD Focus, he felt the RA was much better than the R. His impression of the RA's (currently on his second set) was they where just as good as the 710's, last longer, and cost less. The Avon R's he compared to the Toyo RA's, on wear & traction.

Again those were his comparisons, use it as you wish.

ya i would like to get a set of Ra's after these burn up. I just couldn't resit the close out price for my first R comp tires. i figured it would be a nice entry to race tires and after the 18th and 19th events i m very pleased with them.

How true

:)

I ran new 710's last Sunday, drove down on them & back (30 miles each way). No prior use no heat cycle.

They were fine & look fine. Took 3rd, .15 out of 2nd.

Hell of a tire.

BTW the old ones had 120 runs & 1800 fwy miles before they corded. Obviously they were NOT competative towards the end. IMHO they are great for about 60 runs then good for another 30 then should be turned into practice tires til they cord.
