Will loaner helmets be available?

Also, I have a temp 60 day membership to the SCCA, but I haven't recieved my card in the mail yet. Could I just send a check for $40 and bring in the yellow slip I have confirming membership to SCCA? Thanks.

I brought my dad along to the last one. He had a blast (he'd already come out for a Championship, but he wasn't able to register for the practice).

Last Sunday was the first time I saw the NorthEast lot being used ... by the Drift Cowboys. Is that lot better - bigger, smoother - then the SouthEast lot?

Is it now available for AX'ing?

Earlier, we were told by Qualcomm Stadium that Northeast was not available for a while. So I guess it is now. But it is the worst lot in my opinon. There are areas of the asphalt that are in bad shape and a larger number of hard objects, metal covers in the ground, major holes, major bumps. It becomes very difficult to lay out a good course map on that lot, and you end up with a variation of one typical course.

Btw, is 8 runs the norm for a practice?

Will there be anyone there on practice day that can assist with novices?

About same on size. I think SE is a better arrangement though.

We have been using it for years. West lot remains our first choice.

There normally instructors available who will assist novices during a practice. Just let the grid person or someone in the timing trailer know that you would like an instructor.

itrbruce

As of now, the "powers at be" have opened up the practice to everyone regardless if they are a current SDR member or not. You will need to become a member to participate, but Michael Contour will be there to sell SDR cards/memberships.

As for lot choice: West is best, and while NE has ~10% more area than SE (if you exclude the K-railed portion which actually can be used which would make the NE ~10% less area than SE), the SE has a longer layout as well as better condition asphalt making it the preferred 2nd choice.

Also, everyone that I have received an entry from is in, but the 2nd group (B) is full and so far 2 of you will be receiving notice that you will be given your 2nd choice. I will update the list soon.

People that I still haven't recieved anything from (that seem to think I should have)

Dan_K (unless your name listed on your entry isn't Dan)
LTDScott (unless your name listed on your entry isn't Scott or you are Scott A that drives a civic, not an LTD)
Clark S

Just to reiterate:
*Practice is open to anyone with a valid drivers license.
*The list in the first post is up to date as of Friday's mail. If you don't see your name there, I haven't recieved an entry from you.
*If you aren't an SDR card holder, you can buy a SDR card from Michael Contour the day of the practice, but since he works in the first group, runs in second group, you might want to get there plenty early especially if you are running first or second groups. If you run or work 3rd/4th, he may be available during the 15 minute lunch break, but I run in the 3rd group, so... please try not to mess up our days. We will try to be accomodating and maybe we can off-load task, but certainly don't be a laggin'.
*Oh yeah! And after the list fills up, we will start a wait-list; several people always seem to not be able to make it, so you might still be able to get in. If you are going to try this route, the order will be by who mailed in first if you show up before I get there, and for the people that show up after I get there, then it will be who shows up first for those people. So I recommend getting there early.

Bruce, no, I do not drive a Civic. Card #241. I dropped the check in the outgoing mail basket at work on Wednesday. Hopefully the mail man didn't drop it or something. Should I mail you another check? I signed up for group C, so it looks like there's room left.

Like the genius I am, I sent it out without a stamp.
I resent it today with 2 stamps!

I wanted Group B, but that is full already. My second choice is group A, but that only has 1 spot left. Is it possible to put my name in the last spot? You will get the check tomorrow probably.

I will update the list soon and I will be calling the few people so far that have sent in entries that did not make it, as well as people that did not get their first choice (although feel free to preemptively send me a private message saying you saw it already on the list at the beginning of this thread).

Also, remember you can still send in entries to get on the wait list, but after that gets long enough there won't be much point.

I suspect you have never worked course in the rain. ;)

No, but I have been stuck outside in the wilderness without sufficient rain gear and had to hike 3 miles with a 40 lb pack to get back to the cars. I was 11, and yes it sucked.

I just want to see all you RWD guys spin out in straight lines.

Related to this, how does the sound monitor do his job if it's pouring down rain? Does he still try to write on the paper, or just call it in?

Having worked the sound meter in the rain, yes, you still write them all down. Helps to have an umbrella. Though I have seen less stalwart people abandon the post.

It's the thunder, lightning and hail the size of baseballs you gotta watch out for.

We sell the checks on ebay ;-)
Just kiddin'
I have torn in 1/2 checks from:
Steve Towers, David Laird, Kurt Bilinski, Mark Mendoza, Rita Wilsey, Neal Hoffman, Scott Chamberlain, David Larson, Richard Corio, Tom Tweed, and Chuck Bier.
I will have them down at the events on Sat & Sun, after that I will dispose of them.
The list is updated now (at top of page 1 of this thread). It is still full, but only 3 people on the waiting list so there is still a chance you might get in.
Only 6.4 more hours until the cutoff to cancel without risking forfeiting your $.

Otherwise, see you Saturday,

Generally, you should have the numbers on the car so we can identify you. That way we can make fun of you over the PA when you spin out. :p

By rule we have to log cars as they pass the sound meter. Because of that, we need numbers on the cars.

To be specific...your SDR Solo II number must be on the car. Some have gotten creative and just put any old number on their car.

The cancellation date has passed and there were a few last minute cancellation so we have 2 open spots.

If you want to try to get in, the wait list is officially empty, but there are 2 people that have expressed they want to attend and are on an un-official wait list. Priority to fill the 3 remaining empty slots will be given to whomever drops off checks to my house (or if late mailings show up) tomorrow AND the order of those will be in who contacts me here at sdsolo.com first. After that it will just be settled Saturday morning by who finds me first. I hope this seems fair.

If you do decide to drop of a check, please don't ring the bell (I plan on working on my car out front tomorrow anyway so that shouldn't be an issue).

See you Saturday,

Personally, I think it is smaller, but I don't know the actual measurements. My order of preference: 1st the (bigger) west lot; 2nd the SE lot; 3rd the NE lot; and finally the SW lot (south of the trolley tracks).

But, in reality, the stadium is all we have to play on; we should be lucky to use any of the lots.

Great Practice. Was actually fun sliding on the wet track and at least I didn't lose as much tread as normal. On a side note, I did not have fun running around everywhere picking up the cones hit.
