Hello all, I just recently signed up to SCCA and Im somewhat at a loss for what the next steps are in getting prepped for AutoX. Im not asking for info regarding equipment and classes and such. Just need to know what if any other forms are required to get things squared away and what do I need to do in order to join one of the clubs. Ive read around and im still unsure as to what if any paperwork there is to be completed. I still havent acquired a solo# and the 2009 .pdf form doesnt show up on my mac. Ive contacted one of the SNAX members via email but still havent gotten a reply.
Any help for this noobster would be greatly appreciated. In the meantime Ill keep using the search button. Thanks,
James

James,
All the other forms you need to fill out can be done at the next event; either the "Championship" event on March 8 for sure or even the day before at the practice, although you likely will not be able to drive that day since practices are pre-registration events and that one is already full, but you can come down to check things out so things will go smoother on the 8th. If you do wait until Sunday, just show up early (although even up to 10:00 or so will work, but earlier will be better) and ask around near the registration table and people will help you do what you need to do in order to start running.

Regarding the clubs. You don't need to join one right away in order to start running. I might suggest holding off joining one and chatting with people to see how you will fit in as the clubs have distinctly different personalities as well as different rules and procedures, etc. I do recommend joining a club as they do have there benefits (and they are how autox-ing exists in San Diego), but March 8 will be the 3rd Championship event of the year out of the 6 in the first half of the year. We will likely end up with 12 or more total and the only "requirement" for being in a club is that you must compete in 2/3 of the Championship events for the year as a member of a club (which will likely be ~8 out of ~12) in order to qualify for a year end trophy. So you can miss this upcoming event and one more and still be able to qualify although personally I'd rather miss out on the year end trophy instead of getting into the "wrong" club... not that any of the clubs is that bad.... except for SNAX that is. :poke:

Oh come on, I was just kidding, there isn't even a club named SNAX, I was joking about the typo.

The Datsun people are nice, even if they use an obsolete name. :D

James,

show up at our event March 8, and I will walk you through it.

You can also drop by our practice March 7 and get some rides and perhaps prep yourself for the next day. Unfortunately it is full, so you won't be able to drive. But trust me, it would not be a wasted time.

A persons first auto cross is really spent getting used to the routine of events. How to tech your car, how to register, etc. It's nice to come to one to do all that (without running), plus meet some friendly faces.

Once again, ask for Warren

Thanks Gents.
This info is gold. I have done 2 events before signing up and so I have gotten my feet wet already so to speak and met some instructors. I was hoping to get in on the 15th but it looks as though novices arent invited. Perhaps Ill show up on the 8th and hopefully get some X runs in.

Not every club wants you to do the above, they want you NOW. Think HARD about why that might be. Why would anybody wnt you to make a fast decision, rather than research it?

:nono: No room in warren land for love at first site :thwack:
