They have always been sold (or "passed around") at the last 5 SD tours I attended/ran.

AFAIK, has to be the book. Are they even putting on CDR anymore?

Steve has the right answer.

Nothing that says it has to be your rulebook though - if you get my drift.

My husband and I are planning on coming down from Minnesota for the NT. We may need to head back Sunday night. Does anyone have a guess as to what time the event is over? Also, how fast can one get to the airport from Qualcomm? Thanks for your help!

If all go's good I would think by 4:00, and the airport should be around
20 min.

No

How about SK1?:)

RandyC
02-18-2009, 01:20 PM
It is technically not legal for SK as it is not a stock car.

So right now, there is no legal place to run a Noble.

RandyC
02-18-2009, 01:26 PM
Maybe I will enter my "Fiero" in EMOD instead. I took my "Fiero" and did some body modifications to make it look more like a Noble. Changed the engine to a dual turbo 3L Duratec. Built a tube frame on it. Changed the body to carbon fiber and fiberglass. Replaced the interior to look like Noble with proper racing seats, harness, rollcage.

By the way, I will be late to the event just like last year and for the same reason. I will be working for SPEED TV and SCCA at Sebring and the soonest I can fly back is Saturday and I should be back at noon.

nalbar

While this is true, it is much better if you change it now so we can balance the run/work groups. It also helps in getting the grid spots sorted out. Changing at the last minute creates unbalanced groups - as the past :thwack: worker check in dude - you are painfully aware of this.

Please go to the SCCA site and change ahead of time if you can.

So if this is my first time wanting to bring my car out to Autocross, this is not the time to do it? Is there going to be time for someone to run the track and not be in the "Tour". I am just wondering if I should wait for a Practice day or if this weekend will work...Thanks.

nalbar
03-16-2009, 12:35 PM
It's not for first timers. It's more a spectacle of egotism than an auto cross event.

I am afraid we have a 'lull' in our 'normal' events until we get the 'serious' drivers their group affirmation fix.

http://www.sdr-scca.com/solo2/schedule/

The next 'normal' event is April 26th, a champ. No need to wait for a practice.

You might want to sign up for email notification of flyers. And think about attending our novice school (and the practice the day after) in May.

Tour & Solo are a chance to see the best of the best do their magic.

They must be conducted with a lot of precision so every entrant gets their fair shot.

Not for first timers, just like a a US Open golf match would not be a very good place for a first timer.

All the other region events = very noob friendly.

I find it interesting that SCCA seemingly chooses to ignore our very long standing sound policy agreements with the stadium. XPL, CPL, DP and BM run in Heat 1 and EP, FPL, CML, DM and EM run in Heat 2. As I remember, our agreements with the stadium had a much lower dB limit (87?) prior to 11:00 AM. Have our Tour Chairmen reminded SCCA of our obligations? Do we have some wavier with the city for this event and we (San Diego) will have to live with any ramifications long after the SCCA staff leave town? Just curious. Larry

When the 'hammer' falls, there won't be any sympathy.

Perhaps you should first ask these same questions to your club members when it holds a practice event. I'm sure the entry list is sorted by car classes. ;)

Then we can all learn and live by your wise answers.

nalbar

i know... im just kidding.

/start rant....and for the record, i have NEVER broke sound with my exhaust setup the way it is. On the sound logs for this year the highest ive been was a 91.0 and that was with a leaking exhaust gasket at the header. For me to be at 95.x is way off. /end rant

No sympathy Jon.

You would be wise to look closely at this (group 4);

http://www.sdr-scca.com/solo2/results/2009/2009-03-08-sound.PDF

Study it.

Then remember that not all locations at our events are 'generous'. Some are 'harsh'.

Anything approaching a 91 should be considered a 'fail' by a driver, and fixes should take place. Looking at the full list, a 95 was predictable, and NOT an anomaly.

Looking at that list I can safely predict more violations in your future if you do not change your set up.

i have gone over it and still wonder why i was never approached when we reached 92. I had the equipment and necessary things to make adjustments when needed. Instead i was lead to believe i was okay and my last run got DQ'd.

I have no problem with complying with sound. If i'm loud ill make the necessary changes when warned.

::SIGH:: It's interesting how we always hear the same darn things from violators. 'I never violate, but I have the stuff to make changes :: insert weeping here:: if ooonnnly I was told'.

Our rules;
-------------
POLICY FOR READINGS BETWEEN 91.0 AND 93.0 dBA
Notification to drivers of vehicles with readings of 91.0 to 93.0 dBA shall be made as soon as
possible, preferably in writing on the day of the occurrence.
----------------
Please notice THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT that we tell you immediately after your run. Yet you stick with that excuse. It's 'AS SOON AS POSSIBLE'.

We try to notify drivers if we get a call from the sound radio. It might help if the instructions on the sound sheet were revised to call in readings over 91dB. Right now, it says to only notify timing if it's over 93.

....It might help if the instructions on the sound sheet were revised to call in readings over 91dB. Right now, it says to only notify timing if it's over 93.
I've been asking for about 5years.

I just go by what is printed on the form, as every club has it's own idea as when to call in the violations, sometimes it even varies from one run group to the next depending on who's in the trailer.

If in doubt, a novel approach  would be to read the rule book..
According to
Sports Car Club of America San Diego Region
2009
Solo Supplementary Regulations

6. SOUND MONITORING
6.0.1 This policy applies to all Solo events held at San Diego Qualcomm Stadium provided a
properly set-up and calibrated sound meter is operating.
6.0.2 The option to monitor any event rests solely with the Executive Board and shall be carried out
by the sponsoring club.
6.1 RESPONSIBILITY
6.1.1 The Executive Board, Sound Committee, Rules Committee Chair and Event Chair are charged
with administering this policy, with specific responsibilities detailed throughout this procedure. All
named positions may designate an alternate to act on their behalf in the execution of these policies.
6.1.2 The Sound Committee Chair shall provide a listing to each Event Chair listing all cars, which
are subject to any section of this policy.
6.1.3 The Sound Committee shall provide an approved sound meter. The meter shall meet ANSI or
IEC specifications for Type 1,2(S)1A, or (S)2A sound level meters. The meter shall be operated per
the manufacturer's instructions.
6.1.4 The Sound committee shall oversee the operation of the monitoring station throughout the
entire event, including "fun runs". The meter shall only be operated by designated operators. The
monitoring station shall be included in course communications.
6.2 PROCEDURE
6.2.1 A 100 feet section of the course shall be selected as the measurement site. The section shall be
located where all vehicles will be driven at full throttle, i.e. a straightaway. This must be a defined
section of the course and not a section defined by gates. An area 100 feet wide (from course
centerline) on each side of this section of the course must be free of reflective surfaces larger than a
lamp post.
6.2.2 The meter shall be located 50 feet from the edge of the course, centered in the 100 feet section.
The meter shall be positioned 3 to 4 feet from the ground. All readings shall be taken on the "A"
scale, under SLOW response.
6.2.3 All cars passing through the measurement site shall be listed and monitored on the noise
monitoring log sheet. The recorded information shall include car class and number. As the vehicle
passes, the highest reading shall be noted. Sound reading shall be recorded for cars exceeding 90.0 dBA.
6.2.4 Course communication shall report noise readings 91.0 dBA and above to the noise committee
chairman or his designee.
6.2.5 The Noise Monitoring Log Sheets shall be delivered by the club hosting the event to the Noise
Committee Chair within 14 days of the event.
================================
So note, this is NOT at the discretion of of the event chairman, nor the protest committee, nor....etc....
Noise readings 91.0 dBA and above need to be reported to the noise committee chairman or his designee.

Just an idea.

Where is the sound committee Chair Person?

Like Savoir Faire, he is everywhere :)
Current SDR's sound committee Chair Person is Bill Schiller. If he is not there (or is driving), the default designate is the Event Chairman.

Anyone know if anyone found a set of Subaru keys?
I don't know if they were Subaru, but someone left:
* a set of keys (actually a fob, an ignition key and not much else)
* a lug nut (I think a locking one)
* a plastic bag
* maybe something else, sorry, not sure
over near the canopy where all the safety vests were. I turned them over to the SCCA officials and they made an announcement over the speakers (and possibly the radio station) just before the award ceremony.

Looks like there is a disconnect between the sound rules and the form. The instructions on the form say to write down any readings above 90 dB, and immediately notify Timing and Scoring any car/driver that exceeds 93 dB.

I remember when Jay was sound chair, he put in quite a bit of effort to revise the rules so that they were logical. I suspect we need to change the form to match.

I wrote 6.2.4 and most of my 'clean ups' in enforcement and log tracking are still there just as I wrote them. When 6.2.4 was presented for approval I asked that the sound logs be changed at the next printing and everyone agreed. I know I've asked since then as well. So either we had a hell of a back up of sound logs, or its getting forgotten.
