I was thinking about heading to the event this sunday (I have a trial membership and I want to put it to some use) but I have two questions first:
1. What time should I show up? I've never been to an even before, I have the tial membership and a completly stock car.
2. How bad is the wear on tires? I have a 97 Miata, and I am wondering how much tread it will eat off of the tires. They are above the discard line right now but not by a large ammount.
Thank you.

Normally I suggest that new people show up at 7:30am for their first event. It allows you to get into the flow of the day without too much rushing around. You need to find a parking spot, prepare your car, register, have your car tech inspected, and walk the course/attend a novice walk. Expect to take a little over an hour for all of that.
But I think you run at the end of the day, so some of that can be done later, like walking the course at lunch. In which case, I recommend showing up at 10:00am.
Tread wear at Qualcomm is not bad at all. In 3 runs, I doubt you will notice much wear, if at all.

Kyle, Trial membership in what? I have never heard of such a thing for our region. Can you explain?

There are trial SCCA memberships that have been offered.

It was from Steven Eguina (Thank you! :D) a few weeks ago, it's a 90 day trial membership and a $15 discount toward a full SCCA regular membership. I'll be able to try out a few events and decide what I want to do. He sent out a handful to some people.

You'll want to air up your tires before the event, probably to around 40psi, then talk to some people with similar cars to get a starting point. Street pressure is too low, the sidewall will roll under and you'll get excessive wear on the edges of the tread. I used to run 40 front, 38 rear on street tires. Your car is lighter and you probably have different tires, so it'll take you a bit to find the the right pressure. However, many people at the event will be willing to help you in that respect.. and it's easier to bleed air out than add it in once you're at the Stadium.
One or two events won't matter much. However, 1 or 2 events a month for a year plus commuting to work will pretty much wear out most performance street tires, at least on my heavy car. :)

Cool. That will get you the SCCA discount for a Solo II card and event entry.

Lucky for me, they were actually Jay's tires. :D

Assuming I make it there without any problems (knowing my luck, something will happen...), I think I should be good to go.
I am just double checking, a SNEL 95 is good, right?

Yep, Snell 95 is good.
Until 2010, it will be.

Actually, until the 2010 standard is released. Might be early [doubtful], might be late [probable]. :D
You'll probably want a new helmet before then anyway. The impact absorbiing lining loses its effectiveness with age. And then there's the soft lining, which your head and hair contact.
