I'm just curious how many of you guys run race harness's in your street car?

It's not uncommon.

Keep in mind most harnesses are not DOT legal and people do get busted on it. Schroth makes one that is, but it's a bit of a compromise for racing.

If your class allows, a decent race seat made 5x more differance than a harness did for me.

There are some safety concerns for harnesses in 'street cars' as well. Especially in open cars, but there are some valid points for closed cars as well.

Depending on how it is installed, you can setup a race harness without removing / invalidating the DOT-legal seatbelt, right?

I use the Schroth "quick Fit" harness in my street legal (GS) Mini Cooper S. But, I only use the harness for Autoxing. I like using the harness for Autoxing, but it would be a bit to difficult to use on a daily basis.

What do you guys use for autocrossing?

The seat belt.

I have the above seat in small and it is an awsome seat but you can't have a bigger waist than 33 and expect to fit comfortably.

I also have a 5 point harness that I use for auto X and Daily. Daily harness use I do not recommend it is a pain in the a$$

Depending on the type of car you can have a race harness and stock seat belt in there at the same time.

Kinda a middle ground would be a sparco harness that has the "stock style" buckle instead of a Latch type or Cam-lock like I have now. This makes it a lot faster to use on a daily basis but may no hold as well cause it little harder to adjust quickly. Or at least it is with my seat set up in a Del Sol when i tried that style. But they still are illegal for street use.

The CG Lock works pretty well and is cheap and easy for auto-x compared to just the stock belts.

I had a CG lock, but it would slip a little during a autox runs. I went to the Schroth harness and no more slipping. Just make sure you have the door closed before you tighten down the harness. If you leave the door open you you won't be able to reach the handle to close the door. That has only happened a couple of times to me.

BTW, I have a CG lock I would be willing to sell.

We may not be going to the moon, but being strapped into the seat really helps, or at least it helps me, and I need all the help I can get.

I've sent people into space. Trust me, we need the lateral support more than they do.

I use a Schroth Harness for Auto-X- and its designed with a quick release from the back so you can still use your backseats etc...Its DOT approved- and very easy to use- highly recommend if you are looking for a harness. For daily driving use stock seat belt. With Schroth- stock remains intact-

I autocross with a Simpson 5-point. I've got it set up so that the shoulder straps and the camlock remove/install in less than a minute, and the rest hides away out of sight. I use the stock factory belt on the street, which is not compromised at all by the 5-point.

Stop by some event and check it out. #572 white Integra, D-Stock. I've got the mirror image setup on the passenger side, too. We'll strap you into that and go for a run so you can see what it feels like. (Just give me a heads up because I don't usually bring the passenger side shoulder straps and camlock unless I'm specifically expecting a passenger.)
