A co-worker wants to get something cheap for Racelegal this Friday. Anyone got recommendations on where to get one locally, preferable in the Mission Valley area?

I got mine at C2 (they are one of the sponsors of the forum and they hosted the Novice school in Dec). They're in the Kerney Mesa area.

Dave Turner Motorsports in Kearny Mesa has new Bell, Pyrotect, Simpson, G-Force, and Sparco helmets in-stock. I'm sure he could find one there that will meet his racing and budget requirements.
Also- Bieffe, Suomy, Motorquality, OMP, and Arai helmets will be available as their 2005 ratings are released by the manufacturers coming up very soon!
For the road racers-- HANS devices are also in-stock in all sizes, and they are the only authorized HANS distributor south of LA.

What requirements are there for RaceLegal?
I have had good prices/choices from a motorcycle store.
There is a Harley place at the West end of the Valley.

FYI Race Legal will be changing the helmet rule after the 1st of June.
AS OF 6/1/06 ***** ALL HELMETS - SNELL 95 OR BETTER

Motorcycle stores do carry Snell rated helmets, but the selection tends to be small, and you have to dig to find them. All Snell helmets have a Snell sticker inside the liner. The Fun Bike Center on Convoy usually has a few and they're not far from Mission Valley, but the last time I went there they didn't seem to know or care much about Snell ratings.
The guys at C2 Motorsports and Dave Turner Motorsports, on the otherhand, tend to be knowledgeable and helpful.

FYI Race Legal will not be allowing motorcycle helmets after the 1st of June.
You mixed up the rules, but understandably so. They only specified Snell 95, not M or SA, so my co-worker called them up and asked specifically if he could use a motocross.
In the email below, it actually says that currently a DOT helmet is allowed, but you're talking about the new Snell requirement that'll be enforced in June. FYI, a DOT helmet does not necessarily meet Snell requirement.
This email makes it pretty clear that a Snell M95 (motorcycle) helmet may be used after June.
Here's a copy of their email:

Gotcha. Edited my post to conform with what you said. :) I was under the misunderstanding that Snell was SA only. :o
Arrr ... Dave Turners is where I got my Simpson helmet from. Great service and good selection. They didn't have what i wanted in stock but at least I got fitted properly and had it ordered. Definitely go brick and mortar for helmets.
