I used to go to this place in Chicago where there was no tread mill and the car sat while 4 guys went around and carefully washed my car. It was a deal too at $5.
Yesterday I went to a place and paid $11 at a place (like many) advertising "100% Hand Car Wash", yet they push the car through the tread mill. Not only did they do a poor job around the hood scoop and grill, the bird crap that sat on my rear spoiler is still there.
Does anyone know a good place that does a real hand car wash (short of fund raisers)? I'd do it myself except I lack time and my complex has a rule against it.

I live in Rancho Penesquitos, commute to Sorrento Valley, and spend a lot of time up by Encinitas.

You maybe asking for the impossible. Most "Hand Car Wash" places will "wash" your car by "hand" and then send it down the conveyor for brushless rinse, wax, protective coating, etc. Follow by hand drying.
I don't know any places that will do the whole thing by hand. Besides I don't think I can wait that long. :)

A mobile detail service will do a nice job for $75 to $125. Short of that just find a local place where they teach that guys that it's NOT ok to drop the rag, pick it up, and continue rubbing the car!

Maybe around here that's what "100% Hand" means....
Maybe I need to hire a bunch of "day laborers." It takes no brains, just effort and no stupid tread mill.
What about those charity car wash things? I've done those before and they did a better job than these guys...

You could do worse at the charity/fund raiser car washes.
All I can picture is a bunch of high school kids who may or may not know safe car wash practices with a garden hose, a few buckets of soapy water try to wash as many car as quickly as possible. They will then dry your car with the same few towels they have been using all day with no means of cleaning them.
Commerical car washes may miss a spot here and there but they usually will "do no harm" to your car.

That's true, but I can't imagine a bunch of kids leaving a big dollop of bird crap on the rear of my car if they are washing by hand.
What are these "safe carwash practices" asside from the obvious "windows rolled up"?
