I am thinking of getting these because I don't think I would be able to fully use the potential of rt-615. Like a trainer tire you can say?

are you going to auto X /daily drive on this set of tires or only auto X? If it just an auto X set i would go ahead and by the 615's. if your going to daily drive on them too... Maybe go with the cheaper set with more tread life. If you drive really hard on the street all the time you will burn up the 615's pretty fast.

I used Falken FK-451s (they now have 452s instead) for about 9 months before they were too beat up between road and autox. They wore unevenly because I didn't take care of them and the subaru loves to roll over the side (55 treadwalls).

I'm using Kumho ASXs now, which are pretty good all-around tires (although I'm just using them as a daily driver). There is an SPT tire if you don't care about all season. Either of these should be good to get you started if you don't have too big of a treadwall (so you don't roll over the side too much).

If you are getting dedicated tires, you can go with Kumho MX. They are cheaper than the 615s and won't grip quite as much, but I hear that they are more forgiving at the limit (which will be good for learning). Also, right now you aren't looking for a tire that will kick butt you are looking for something that is economical (both initial cost and lifespan) while you learn how to drive fast.

I think I will be going for the Falken ZE-912, i know they aren't the best but I want to learn my cars limits before i upgrade to those tires.

You will be fine Alex.

Auto crossers seem to talk tires more than any other subject (maybe course criticism is first).

There is a theory that says to NOT go first class on your initial tires, for two reasons.

1) you will make mistakes and tear your tires up, best have something strong that can handle this abuse rather than tear up soft tires fast.

2) harder tires make you show more discipline because mistakes become apparent fast. They make you go slow through the turns, thusly concentrating on the correct 'line', which is the foundation that all good driving is built.

Not that i do any of that stuff, but it sounds good.

Chris won his championship on Zeix 512s, albeit there was no Mini-Cooper competition on my 99. Excuse me, not mine anymore..

Chris is an awesome driver and the class is maturing. Care to make some predictions how someone else might do on 512's in SK2, especially considering this year's competition? :p :p :p
