Get out SCAT!
This is the SCNAX area. Don't you have a kitten to torture?
Go to your local USED motor cycle shop and check their used helmets. My first one cost me 20 bucks. Just make sure it has a current rating.
Make an offer when you see one you like. Don't take the first price quoted. You can absolutely get one cheap.

I know the rating i should get is SA2005 but isn't bad to use motorcycle helmets for car racing?

That's because Warren has a $20 head. I'd have gone for $10. :D

It does not have to be a 2005, it can be a 2000. You won't get a '05 for cheap.
I think even the '95 is good for awhile but I am not sure. Jayson and Bob are our resident helmet experts.

bad to use motorcycle helmets for car racing?Only if you plan on catching on fire.
'95 should be good for autox for a couple more years. 'M' (motorcycle) helmets are okay for AX. If you have hopes of big track, an SA rating is likely required. And often a 'newer' rating is required for road racing. SA's are typically much more than M helmets. SA's provide fire protection (nobody's ever been trapped in a burning motorcycle), M's typically have better visability.

But from experience what is the best to start out with? Would it be be more worth it looking for a SA so i dont have to buy another helmet for the track?

Last year could get an open face SA 2000 helmet for not much money. Might be harder this year. Minimum for Solo is an open face M 95; minimum for SCCA club racing is a full-face SA 2000; minimum for all of the pro sanctioning bodies in the U.S. [SCCA, IMSA, NHRA, etc.] is a full-face SA 2005.
Best to try on different brands to find out what shape head you have. For example, I've never worn a Bell helmet that was comfortable. AGV, Shoei and Bieffe have all been fine for me.

Or if you see multiple impacts to your helmet in your caged car and like, if you see projectiles with more energy flying at your shield ..
basically, if you ever plan wheel to wheel, open wheel, track or road race you will need an SA rated helmet. but Warran (nalbar) has a good suggestion; get a really cheap helmet and you won't feel hurt for having to dish out more money for a really good one!

You can get a spankin new SA05 open face starting at around $120, or a closed face starting at $170.
In there's any prospect of any track events in your future, springing for the full face SA05 makes a lot of sense. I've been hit in the face by rocks kicked up and through the window on the track (in a full face helmet with the visor up, no less), and its not fun. Risks of fire (unlikely but possible) or multiple impacts (not likely but far from unheard of) have always led me to spring for a current SA helmet.

Three words on a hot summer day made me opt for an open face helmet when I was buying a replacement: "hold the start".
A full face helmet in 95F weather quickly turns into a head sauna when sitting at the start line waiting for the course to clear, or timing trailer problems to be resolved. Time slows down, too.

Where can i find this helmet?
www.C2racers.net in Kearny Mesa, I think those are the "Zamp" brand. Pretty lightweight fiberglass models, and a good price.
