Hello all, I am new to this forum and looking to get back in to AutoX.

I am going to purchase an 82 RX7 which i want to use strictly for AutoX and wont be driving it on the streets. My question is for anyone who has taken a streetcar and turned it in to a race car. What kind of registration do i need? I want to be able to tow on the ground as opposed to a trailor if possible. I tried the DMV but they were not much help, they told me it would just have to be registered as a street vehicle which i dont want because I dont want to smog it.

Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated, sorry if this is a repeat.

I got the same word from the DMV that to tow it on the ground, you need to be properly registered (not PNO).

I've therorized, but not researched this: Whats to stop you from calling the RX7 a "trailer"? Then registering it as such?

I'd just PNO it and tow it.

I'd just PNO it and tow it.Can't tow with wheels on the ground on a PNO reg.

I know, but how big is the risk?

I got pulled over last Mar for towing the Geo on the I-5 in San Diego with 1year out tag. All my lights worked and I was doing 55 in the slow lanes.

He didn't site me for the Geo, but then combed over the truck and gave me a ft plate and tinted window fix-its.

Well now SDPD says you can tow it on the ground, highway patrol says you cant. DMV says that when the car is ready to be registered to bring it in and they have to verify VIN numbers. Then it can be registered as an Off highway vehicle. Does any of that make sense to anyone or know anyone who has done this? Thanks again!

So the final word now after talking to the dmv again, i can just go in and get the title and not register it as long as i tow it on a trailor/ dolly as long as all four wheels are off the ground.
