Hi all! I know everyone on here has an opinion about pretty much everything (I know I do), so here's a chance to voice them. As you can all see from the events calendar, March is going to be a busy month down here in SD for autocrossing. Between the SCAT event, the PRO SOLO at El Torrito, and the National Tour at Qualcomm, I'm not sure my wallet can handle all the entry fees and tire wear.

So here's the question: If I had to choose one event to do (maybe 2) which should it be? I'm still pretty slow, so I won't be super competitive anywhere I go, but I'm looking for the best overall experience and the most entertainment to go with my autocrossing fun. Let me know what you guys think.

Thanks!

I've heard that Pro Solos are really fun, but since I have never been to one, I will leave that for others to comment on.

The Tour is $80 for 6 and only 6 (or less if your car breaks I suppose) runs. That is about the same $$ as 2 practices so even though they can be exciting, I would recommend skipping that and instead opt for the March practice and possibly the following Champ event where you might even get 4 runs and do fun runs after.

If the ProSolo is going to be run in the traditional side-by-side format as opposed to the single-car format they were experimenting with last season, you should go to that. It's the most fun you can have in the autox universe.

Plus, El Toro's got tire shredding concrete for lots of grip (assuming your tires survive), which can only add to the white knuckle experience.

If you're still new and can only do one, I'd do the local. But come out to the National events and watch the bigger boys go at it so you're prepared for next year.

Practices, ALWAYS practices. More runs for your money, and instruction is more available.

If you want to get in the SCAT practice you better get your money in within a day or so of the flyer going up, it will sell out pretty fast. It is the weekend before the Tour, and LA has had its last event before the Tour, so a lot of people are pointing at that practice. Same with the Champ the day after the Practice. It will be a busy day. Not much chance of four runs that day because it will get 200 entries (maybe more) as the LA and SD folks prepare for the Tour/Pro Solo. And some of the 'out of state' people will already be in town for the week.

It's not run on the concrete; the courses use the runways, which are very grippy asphalt.

And if you go there when it's hot, bring a crap load of water and drink drink drink. I got dehydrated out there once. :(

I would do the Pro Solo if I were you - most fun you can have with your pants on!

Good advice regardless of venue, but El Toro compared to Calif. Speedway is chilly. :D
