Qualcomm Stadium to host new site for concerts

In today's Union Trib-

A new concert facility (outdoor with capacity for 13000 people) will be built on the grass lot off the southwest corner of the parking lot. It is expected to be home for a number of concerts each year. First concert should be in May.

Just noting, since this can have an impact on our events.

That grass area isn't really all that big. Going to take some doing to get a 13K person facility back there.

yeah, way way back in college we did gymkhana on grass. did not roll up my window and ended up with a mouthful of dirt and grass:D

Maybe this is a good thing (glass is half full?) as anything that keeps usage of the facility going prolongs how long we get to use it?

No this area is a rugby pitch.
Ombac Rugby uses this as their home field.

That was my first reaction. Then I realized how separated it is from the stadium itself.

A rugby pitch can hold many folding chairs. They depend on the parking lot also. Since they got a 3 year contract, maybe we got a 3 year extension also. :cool:
