Hello everyone,

I am a newbie that has never autocrossed before. However I really wanted to start attending this year, and had a new set of wheels and rims purchased just for the event.

Yesterday I slapped on the brand spankin wheels and tires and went for a spirtied drive to shave the tires. Unfortunately I took a corner way too fast and jumped a curve. (Yea I know.. I'm still kicking myself for being so stupid)

The results are as follows.

My car is ok, but the 2 front rims are warped so they are no good. This is what I have to work with, if I want to AutoX anytime soon.

My car (2000 2.5 RS)
4 Stock rims with all season tires (Kumho Ecsta Supra 205-50-16)
2 good Rota rims with tires for AutoX (Hankook Vetus RS2 Z212, 205-55-16)
2 warped Rota rims with the Hankooks

Do you think there is a good combination of these rims that might make it worth autoXing. Or should I search for 2 replacement rims? The tire size on the stock vs rotas are not the same..

Thanks for your help.

How badly are they bent? There are shops that repair bent rims. Also, you're sure the tires are OK? If the rims aren't repairable, getting 2 new ones is best for he long run.

In the short term, you could put the sticky tires up front and the all-seaons in back to help the car rotate.

bob's advice is good. but just get any tires and rims you can and come out. don't let not having the 'right' tires stop you. the first few times you run your tires are almost irrelevent, you are just trying to get used to the 'routine' of auto-x'ing.

if you come out sat. to watch introduce yourself to #75 and i will give you a ride. you will see what i mean. its the EXPERIENCE that you need, not any particular tire. my tires are GONE and i am still running.

And when Nalbar says his "tires are gone" he really means it. His front Toyota Matrix had tires so bald before that he oversteered his car like he was drifting for style points. = ) I was a passenger while he was showing off to the ladies!

Thanks for the tips everyone. I guess ill just put the hankooks on hold and just drive with my street tires. Sounds like I have a lot to learn.. and probably wont even be able to use or appreciate the grip that the z212s offer.

Also thanks for the offer nalbar. I'm planning to check out the practice event Saturday, and buy my membership. I'll see if I can find you and if you aren't busy and the offer still stands at that time, that'll be great. I'll bring my helmet just incase :D .

Also, Rotas aren't terribly expensive anyway, so it shouldn't take you very long to save up and get some new ones. Of course the wait time on special orders would give you even more time to save.;)

Put your stock rims back on. You don't want to run tires of different sizes on a Subaru at the same time. You will mess your diffs up.

Stock tires help you learn how the car feels on the edge of traction. I've gone out a few times and I still need to get a better feel for my car sliding.

Wait a year. Then get the r-comps.
