Had time to kill yesterday so I cruised over to my local Porsche dealer as I heard that the Cayman was on the lots. He had a half dozen & one was avail for demo drives.

The GM was on the lot near one I was looking at & turned me over to a salesman after introductions.

That is one seriously pretty car, stickers were from 61k to about 81k depending on options. Many Porsche options cost $3000. Premium leather, Nav, Metallic Paint add 3k each time you click one off. I thought that was funny.

The cockpit is big, not like squeezing into my c4 Vette. Beautiful metal, leather, the smell - ahhhh.

After taking a copy of my CA DL the sales guy pulled the demo out of a very tight parking lot & pulled right over to let me drive.

He had a route laid out that included a nice on camber sweeper that I was familiar with about 6 miles.

Traffic was light, mid afternoon on the coast hwy. He said that the dealership took them all to the track (probably Willow Springs or Streets to get acquainted with the car - sweet.

I told him I did some autox & track days & he said go for it:)

I eased thru the sweeper in 2nd and merged onto the coast hwy at about 3 grand, the car was warmed up by now.

Bit of luck, traffic clear, hammer down to almost red line & click into 3rd, 105 came up pretty fast and Jason the sales guy started to make noises - not words really.

I backed off & eased the brakes down to 55 for out turn back to the dealership.

The acceleration was smooth but by no means impressive. The LT4 would probably own it in a straight line. I am sure it would out handle my car. Can't wait to see one at an event.Solid like billet alum parts.

After he parked it I showed him the Vette, still had the 710's on & he noted the neg. camber.

A very sweet car, but I think I'd spend the extra for the full 911 experience.

Anyone else tried one of these yet?

I'm going to wait until I can afford it. :D

If a 20 year old 944 can feel as sweet as it does (and out corner my WRX), then I can't imagine what a modern porsche with a powerful engine could do. If only I had 60 grand to drop...

Best looking Porsche in a long time. I like the idea of a mid-engine coupe, but a used 911 is a lot more in my reach.

It is the cover car of the Wheels section (Sat. Union-Trib.) I like. Not in my future. The new 505 HP, 427 cid, dry sump-engined Z06 has me smitten. :D Won't be getting one of those either. :(

What I really would like is a Ford GT or Lambo Gallardo. That is lottery territory, however!
