Hi everyone, I've been AutoXing for a few years now, and I've been doing it through the local BMWCCA. However, I want more practice time so I signed up with SCCA and I dont know which Group to join in San Diego. I read that I need a region membership but I dont know where to get it. I also need to classify my car, its a 95 BMW M3, slightly modded. Any help or direction would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need a SD regional card. These are sold at the SD SCCA events. There is a practice this weekend and a champ event I believe. You can come down to qualcom sat or sunday and buy a card.

To run for points in the SD region you need to join one of the various clubs that host the local SCCA events.

Make sure you tell them that you have an SCCA membership because you will get a discount on your SD regional card.

sweet, thanks for the info. How much is the region card? I bet that if I show up this weekend I might not get a chance to run. I saw the sign up list.

You won't be able to run on Saturday, the practice day. But Sunday is an open championship day, so show up early, buy a number card and register then.

To run for points in the SD region you need to join one of the various clubs that host the local SCCA events.

To run for year-end points you need to join one of the 5 SD clubs, but since it is too late to accumulate enough points for the year for it to count for anything, I'd just suggest you check out the clubs to see which one fits you the best. Some are big & some are small, some have better/more serious drivers & some are just there for fun, some tend to be older & some younger, some require you go to meetings & others not, one of them is stuck with Warren Leach, 4 are not (hi Warren :p )

In order to run at all you need a SD region card. Get there early (either day) and Warren should be near the registration table. They are $30, but at some point, they drop the card price by half since it is good from Jan-Dec. I don't know if the price is down yet or not, but Warren will set you straight.

The practice is pretty close to full, but send in a check and a form (from http://www.sdr-scca.com/solo2/schedule/flyer_dccsd_081807.pdf
and you still have a good chance to get in or at least be high on the wait list (there are always a few last minute cancellations and or people that don't show up... hence the wait list).

All I do is sit there, and I get personal attacks.

Cards are 30 for non-SCCA members 20 for SCCA members. They go half price Oct 1.

There is a three day practice 1&2&3.

Enter any day you want, or all days.

Ask for Warren at registration at any of our events, morning or afternoon. He is not hard to find, there is usually a crowd of admirers around him.

The complete rule book can be found http://scca.com/solo/index.asp?reference=rules

Here is a link to a summary of some of the "slightly" modded classes

as well as including car-class lists and here is another list for Street Prepared

Has SDR ever done a 3 day practice? Wow, there goes the tire budget. Good that I just did rotors & pads. I hope we get enough bodies to run all 3 days.

I'm still lobbying for the mini lapping style like BMWCCA did their last event se lot. If any club would step up for this I figure it'll be SCNAX.

We are not the only club that strives to do the different and unique, just we try to do it in a way that doesn't piss people off.

Well, you don't HAVE to enter EVERY day!

I would say it's pretty sure considering we already have at least 12 for each day. And more on some days.

I just recently ran into this issue. If we could get it covered that would be wonderful.

So the number you get at the auto-x isn't your SCCA number? thats your SD region number?

Therefor you can register with the SCCA online but still have to wait for your class and number?

SCCA is the national body with a 6digit membership number. The local San Diego Solo card is independent of that and is only 3 digits, which is the number you'll run on the outside of your car. Warren or a rep should be selling these most mornings.

wow, thanks for the info guys.

So let me get this straight, I dont NEED a card to just come down and run on a practice day? I'm not looking to compete, just practice. The September 1 & 2 would be perfect for me. Can I mail in and sign up?

Yes, you need a SOLOCARD to run in any San Diego event. Or a 'day pass', which you can buy (10 dollars) on the day of the event. That 10 dollars is good for a credit on a SoloCard if you decide to buy one later.

You do NOT need to be a member of the SCCA to run our events.

You do NOT need a SoloCard to SIGN UP for a practice, you can always buy it that day.

If Sept 1&2 is 'good for you' I would not wait. They will fill FAST. Sept 1 is already half full, after ONE day.

Hello I have been a member 9rookie) and NEVER raced !

but now I may have an opportunity to get involved much more.

my son has a 1996 Saturn which we just installed a new engine into, he was rear ended and now the car is totaled.

so its now a SCCA project car.

its got some giddy up , with the new engine and new transmission.

my questions would be :

DMV registration?... is this necessary??, we will be towing vehicle to track, never ever driving it on the road.

so basically a towed race car.

we also must remove the bumper from the rear, replace the seats with stock seats from the junk yard, and get a new hood.

we plan on it being completely stock and have some fum with it.

I would like to talk to someone that could point us in the right direction, I have 3 boys that are pretty excited about this endeavor

my personal email is

Matt@jamesLday.com

I just need some help understanding how it all works.

thanks Matt
