As some of you know (and now for those that don't) I'm rebuilding a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX to run in SM. I'm getting very close to having the engine done, but I have run into a small snag...

Long story short, I have a bolt broken off inside the head. The bolt is for holding down the camshaft cap, and thus slightly important. I fear I have made things worse by now having an extractor broken off inside the bolt inside the hole! My excellently resourceful neighbor had a try at fixing it for me to no avail, and he recommended taking it to a machine shop before scraping it and getting a new head. SO.... if anyone knows of or has a good machine shop they can refer me to, I'd be greatly appreciative. I'd prefer a shop that has some experience with imports, especially Miatas as its the same 1.6L engine as the original Miata.

You might try Motor Machine and Supply (http://local.yahoo.com/details?fr=dd-local-tl1&id=20800016&stx=motor+machine&csz=National+City+CA&ed=ylW2wK160SyI1Sx3rRoQ4AGveKJgNjs2WUU6zYXMPuWKfns PKWqUoJNXk.UnwKs3smFFISCNMw--) in National City. They have done good work for me in the past at reasonable cost.

Also Motor Works (http://local.yahoo.com/details;_ylt=ArI3_sGK41aY7ZhDsrvrlyOHNcIF?id=20852 187&state=CA&city=San+Diego&stx=motor+works&csz=San+Diego%2C+CA&fr=dd-local-more&ed=w3IZR6131Dy69ryPE9IjyAQwOcE9tD51dFYY1PVJenCJ4qI 5s71uV5_D&lcscb=.JuNZqvLhNx) on Coolidge Ave. in National City is a smaller shop doing more "boutique" specialty work.

For this kind of thing, you want to take it to Hopsings Machine, Inc.

5255 University Ave
(619) 582-9496

Great shop run by a chain smoking old asian guy. He looked at the hub from Lotus where I broke off the stud... and then broke off two extractors and said "Good job!" to me. :) But only charged me like $30 to fix it.

Randy, I like your choice of machinists. He knew what my head was from without having to ask :)

Holy hell, I dropped it of at 8:30 this morning and he just called me to tell me the head is done. His words were "it wasn't easy"... haha, not easy my ass, he did it in two hours and is only charging me $35! I love it! Great find Randy!!
